If he makes everyone else better, then I'm not worried. He's not an all around corner, but the scheme will mask that. I'm not shitting my pants because Leonhard is out. I'm not going to worry about Smith's shortcomings. The other stars on this defense will be fine with him putting them in the right position.
TY for posting this, I am catching my breath now.. lol Jim or no Jim we still take this game by 10 points. I think this will inspire the secondary to step up just like the line did when Jenks went out.

punctilious and parallax are difficult words!? Wow... that said hope he shines while filling in for Leonhard... but not too much since he's in the final year of his contract too...
Football is played by southerners who use phrases like "shines like a new horseshoe on a thoroughbred" or something like that, rather than use scholarly words that Smith uses. His vocabulary is only matched by Brian Billick.
No offense to Smith, but I was under the impression that he was kind of a meathead, my opinion has changed totally from this piece, good read.
So if Smith is the smart one, what does that make Brodney Pool? Hope the Jets have the horses in Ihedigbo and Lowery to fill in for Leonard the rest of the season. Sadly, injuries happen. We just got a disturbing taste of that.
Let's hope Smith's "defensive QB'ing" ability matches his vocabulary. Although a harder hitter (for what that's worth), he isn't the athlete or tackler Leonhard is; he has made some dumb penalities, too. I'm not trying to be a downer, but this injury hurts worse then Pace and Jenkins going down. I'll be rooting for Smith all the way, but Lowery, Pool, et al., will need to step up and execute, starting vs. the Patriots. I think Cotchery or Cromartie can do as good of a job returning punts, so long as they display Leonhard's hands of glue and protect the g-damn ball. (I'm nervous when Kyle Wilson returns a punt.) Leonhard fair caught nearly 50% of the time and produced 11.3 yards when he did run it back. :shit: Let's go, Jets.
we were counting on that group of players to shut down the TE's over the middle. But with Pool getting benched, Leonard going tripod on us, Lowery still roaming around last week, wilson being wilson, coleman being coleman.....the win we get in 3 days will be one of Rex's best efforts to date!
No it doesn't. Ok Leonhard was the main comunicator in the backfield but it's not like players won't communicate without him! They'll find a way to be where they're supposed to be.
Didn't Smith give Welker that vicious hit earlier this year during our first visit with the Jets???? If he plays like that vs Welker again...that's alright be me...
