Would love to keep him but he's not as important as Santonio, Braylon or cromartie.

We can plug in someone else at kick returner like McKnight or Kyle Wilson. And as far as
The Seminole, we might just have to eliminate it from our offense. Which is fine because if we keep these guys we don't need trickery.

I love brad smith but we can't keep everybody

I am convinced the Jets/Tanny won't break the bank for him. He'll probably get a better offer elsewhere just because we have a lot of players to spend money on and probably not enough cap room to do so. If Smith goes because the money needs to go elsewhere, I understand.

But if other teams are only offering similar money, he might be the kind of guy who stays out of loyalty.

I think he could stay out of loyalty too, only because of Rex, and Westy's last year is next year.

This is a first class organization.

oh please with the loyalty card. that has been thrown around way too much with our free agents.

the guy hasn't made a billion dollars in his career or gotten a monster contract. if someone is going to pay him, he's going to leave.

the loyalty/organization card only factors in when there's a marginal difference in contract size or when that player has already made a lot of money in their career. and that's only in very few instances regardless

If we win the Superbowl this season, you can get rid of the entire team, I won't care.

:) I think we will be able to keep Brad. I believe he really likes playing here, and we may be able to get him at a cheaper price.

There's really no reason to worry about this situation now anyway. We are off to a 9-2 start and we have a legitimate shot of getting a Super Bowl this season. We also have no idea what the new CBA will look like, so this could become a non-issue.

Enjoy the season. We have a long, boring stretch between the end of the season and the draft where we can worry about all of this.

I can definitely see a team giving him a pretty big offer in free agency. Some team will give him a shot to be their #3 receiver, and an increased role on offense.. like Josh Cribbs.

If anyone can find a way to keep all these guys its Mike T but unfortunately I know we will loose at least one valuable Jet.

    This... I totally agree.

Plus let's remember Brad Smith's value is as a returner and a wildcat QB, not as a WR (where he is serviceable). He's not going to get THAT strong of an offer imo...

PS BTW Isn't Leon a FA after this season?

This. When was the last time a slightly above average kick returner who also plays QB and WR got a crazy offer from another team?

What exactly is Brad Smith's value to the Jets? He's our 4th WR this season when everyone is healthy, and there are better 4th WR's in the league. He's a decent KR, but you can find those in the draft. He's probably a great wildcat QB, but the Jets rarely let him throw.

imo, Cribbs is the closest players to Brad Smith. Cribbs is probably a better WR and return guy than Smith, and I still think the Browns overpaid for him (3 years, 20 mil. No idea what the guaranteed money was).

Cribbs is still far and beyond better than Smith. He's deal was warranted and he's still the best player on that team even with Hillis being a complete monster.

Smith will see market value as a backup role player. I can see a 4 year, 18-23 million dollar deal next year, with 12 guaranteed.

Yeah, and he'll be resigned for what he is, a special teams kick returner.

As long as it's not the Patriots making that offer to Smith

I was able to re-sign Brad Smith fairly easily after I re-signed Holmes, Harris, Cromartie AND Edwards in Madden Franchise mode, so I don't see why Mike T. wouldn't be able to do it.

Harris, Cromartie, and Holmes are top priority.

this is all why this is the year we need to close the deal and win it all, maybe next year we won't have the same team. We generally haven't drafted very well.

Sure... but if we lose Brad Smith... we need a kick returner and a guy running the wildcat which was originally drawn up for Leon... sooo... could be an option no?

I think Tannenbaum has done quite well. Give the 2010 draftees a couple-three years before you decide on them.

Wasen't there an article during the offseason where Edwards said he'd gladly take less money if it helped the team keep their good players. And he just wanted to be a Jet.
