Brad Smith would do the airplane all the way to the Jets complex if he was franchised

Maybe not, but he's a quiet leader and a fan favorite. It would be a good idea for the Jets FO to do what they can to keep him. Within reason of course.

Hopefully our FO can find some more 4th round talent to contribute like Smith has. We'll probably have to make a big mistake and let him go.

How exactly are you paying for a 100 million contract to beat the 6/91 he got from Chicago? Are you going to not resign Revis? Not extend both Mangold and Brick.

Assuming there's a franchise tag and the Jets want to pay him a guaranteed 10 million or so, sure.

Yup - it's unfortunate because he's been a very good Jet. He's a hell of a football player. I doubt we'll be able to pay him market value, but who knows what happens.

I'll believe that when I see it (westhoff's last season). I know he said it, but I think he's "retired" before, hasn't he?

Lol, yeah I'm on that thought too.
Can you imagine Westhoff at home during the season?

He's stated numerous times that next season will be his last.

I wonder how Westhoff will react if we lose bc he was more valuable to the special teams than Washington. I am hopeful we can keep him, but we'll see. Harris and Holmes need to be our priority this offseason.

Didnt Westhoff say if Brad Smith goes he goes or something like that. I think we sign Holmes SMith and Harris then try to sign Cro and Edwards but probably lose 1 of the 2

Honestly...exactly who is going to pay Brad Smith and how much? Let's be realistic here. He is a special teams demon...no doubt. He has his MOMENTS on offense...no doubt. No one is going to pay him $5mill a year for 4 TD's in a season, less than 20 catches and 20-30 rushing attempts a year out of the wildcat. NO ONE.

I LOVE Brad...he is an integral cog to our team...but he's just a cog. He is the 4th receiver on a team, that, let's be honest, is arguably in the middle of the pack/bottom top end as far as Receivers go... Brad is perennially going to be a $2 - $3mill/yr. guy and I think the Jets can swing that. Just an opinion.

    Hardly.

The guy is a niche player.

He's not a WR, or Qb.

He's a ST player with additional capabilities.

No way he gets more than the Jets can pay.

Yeah, he would have to be pretty pumped about that. There's no way that happens.

Let's look on the bright side: if we lose Brad Smith then people would have something to complain about and maybe put Leon Washington to bed.

Then every once in a while when Brad Smith has a huge game people can drag it out and go 'See?! SEE?!! We should have given him $5 million!"
