The trade involved a 3rd rd pick which could escalate to a 2nd based on certain criterias... any ideas what those criterias are? In all the mock drafts I see we have a #1 and a #2 but I'm not so sure about that... We'll prob be going to the play-offs and Cromartie is having a pretty good year so most probably we'll have a #1 and a #3... I haven't found anything specific about the trade criterias... if anyone does please post here.
we have discussed this in the past.... But I believe that nobody knows the exact specifics of it. But people believe it will be a 3rd since Rex was apparently confident at some point that they would only be giving up a 3 for Cro.
I know it was discussed but it was all based on hypothesis... just wanted to make a thread to maybe encourage someone to search for something more valid. I couldn't find anything...
Generally, you won't find anything on conditions of the trade, both clubs have the right to keep it private. We will find out after the season is over. It will either be a 3rd Round pick for sure or a 2nd Rd pick based on specific criteria that have to be met, which are undisclosed. People are assuming since Cro has started every game and is playing a bunch it will be a 2nd Round pick, no one knows for certain. Could be based on playing time, started games, ints, passes broken up.....you get the point.
We have to just assume it's a 3rd until told otherwise. I don't like how some Mock Draft websites are already picking for San Diego in the 2nd in our spot....the terms haven't been released.
I bet the upgrade to a 3rd round pick to a 2nd round pick is contingent if the Jets can resign Cromartie past this year..... However I think the Jets kind of figured with the drafting of Kyle Wilson in round 1 that Cromartie will be a 1 year thing and they will only give up a 3rd round pick as a result and will roll with Revis and Kyle Wilson moving forward.
If I recall, one of the stipulations involved where/how the Jets finished the regular season in standings. If we finish strong and have a 1st round bye in the PO's, I believe we're def kissing that 2nd rd pick goodbye. If what I'm saying is correct, this puts the pressure on the FO to sign Cro long-term because we sure as shit ain't losing him to FA AND our 2nd. If we tag him, it means we're gonna have to pay big bucks to Harris and the leftover from the Holmes/Edwards saga.
If that is the case we BETTER sign Cro, are you kidding? GO along with Wilson and Revis next year? Bad Bad Idea, Cro has been exceptional for us and Wilson still needs time to develop , Cro and Revis combo is extremely important to this defense. We just cant risk it. And the Jets giving a 3rd rounder actually may signify that were just not "renting" him but rather testing the waters and then signing him to a deal that reflects his performance.
Wilson should get better after a year of learning and experience. Revis wasn't Revis when he came in as a rookie........it took at least one year until he became a very solid CB in 08. Cromartie is gonna want ALOT of cash and I don't know if we can give it to him, especially if Mr. T wants both Braylon and Holmes back. Getting David Harris his money is priority No.1, including over Cromartie. I think Antonio will be the odd man out, we recoup a 3rd round pick via Compensation in 2012 Draft and give up a 3rd. Good gamble.
Having another Revis is a very rare thing , though Id love for it to happen, I seriously doubt Wilson becomes a player like Darelle. Cro would be priority number 3 in my mind. For me in order it would have to go: 1. David Harris 2. Holmes 3. Cromartie 4. Edwards. I think we can sign the top 3 guys and leave Braylon out, Id love to have them all but if it could only be three Id sign that top 3.
Oh no I don't mean he becomes another elite corner but more so as a No.2 corner he should do enough of his job to be good. He will be tested surely if starting at the No.2 but with another training camp and some pro experience under his belt, he should get better. Cromartie will want to be paid as a top corner despite being the team's No.2 and I don't know if the Jets will make that happen.
How do the Jets rebuild? 2 picks in the first 3 rounds? Older players taking up space on the roster? Is this Rex or Tanny's doing?
In order, I want these guys re-signed: 1. David Harris (core four) 2. Antonio Cromartie (2nd or 3rd draft pick) 3. Santonio Holmes (top receiver)
If we wind up losing a 2nd round pick for one year of cromatie that's just insane. I think we all know he's talented but has serious flaws in his game. No power, can't or won't tackle, has major issues against smaller quicker receivers. He's great down the field against bigger receivers but teams have realized that. I don't want to resign him because he's a flawed player.
If we had a great nickel corner his flaws wouldnt show as much. Hes great at covering vertical routes and thats why we got him. I wish we still had Donald Strickland.
