McCourty is a good corner for a rookie, but there's no way he's able to take out a receiver like Edwards or Holmes.
Well that analysis does it for me. I'm now convinced that McCouty(sic) is the second coming of Darrelle Revis and will completely take Edwards out of the game.
When you've started 11 games and have 5 picks, the term rookie doesn't mean much anymore. The Pats don't have another quality CB, so QB's aren't going to chance it much with McCourty. He's a top talent and if you make a mistake in his area he's going to catch it and return it.
Yeah we need to pass this on to the Jets, this is a must know. Shit, I hope Sanchez doesn't dare do what perennial backup Shaun Hill did nad throw for almost 300 yards while McCourty covered CJ and held him to 85 yards and a TD. lol
Hence the BACKUP part of that. lol If Stafford was in he would've lit you guys up. You've been riding a train of luck, all your opponents have had HUGE injuries to overcome. We beat you in week 2, 1 week after we lost Jenkins for the year, without Revis, Pace, Pryce, Pool, a health B. Smith, and Holmes. I literally can not wait a week for this, you better come back and take your medicine. I don't recall you coming back after week 2.
I know, it's all been luck. Leading the league in scoring, tied for best record, beating SD, Indy, Baltimore, Pitt. fyi, Pats at the time were adjusting to life without a starting DE, a starting CB, a starting pro bowl OL, a half-Welker, and forced to start about a half-dozen rookies. And running an offense around Moss that wasn't working. I'll be back after this game, don't worry.
It's not that McCourty is the next Deion Sanders but he's decent. Decent enough that it's just easier for teams to pick on the other CB.
He caught 2 TDs the week after and the Pats scored 24 pts on offense the week before. Give credit where credit is due, the Jets defense is why that "offense around Moss" wasn't working that week.
fyi- Jets at the time were adjusting to life without a starting all-pro CB, a starting all-pro WR, a starting all-pro LB and a QB in only the second game of the second year of his career.
Even though I was initially nervous about the Moss trade from Oakland, in the end Moss gave Patriots fans some of the most exciting football we've seen. So I'll always be appreciative of that Moss and the 2 good years or so he gave us. And he seemed like a good guy and teammate too. But it was clear that he was starting to melt down or lose a step or something. It really does look like the Patriots offense is better without him right now.
We need to figure out how to stop those passes in the slot no matter who is catching them. we get burned everytime.
I find it a little confusing about how the patriots offense is a better match for the jets without moss. I have seen a few so called experts state this but without moss it just frees up revis to do other things. Now Ryan can be creative with revis and cromartie. Maybe they cover the tight ends, welker, or who knows even send one of them on a blitz. It allows the jets to really give the patriots a lot of different looks and allows them to dictate what the pats do offensively.
My point was they were doing fine with him and by the Miami game he was already fully phased out/used as a decoy.
Which is why people here complain all day about Drew Coleman. Its also why we dont know if McCourty is really any good. People dont really try testing him too much because the other corners make Drew Coleman look like Darelle.
Totally agree! McCourty is playing very well, but he's not a top corner, just yet, he's the Pat's top corner in a very weak secondary. McCourty has all the talent to be an excellent CB in the future, let's just not induct him into Canton with 3/4's of his first season complete.
I don't think it'll hurt for Rex to be able to pick his brother's brain regarding the Browns win over the Pats. This is going to be a good game. I honestly have no idea who will win, we'll see.
I think I was talking in general. Moss was certainly capable of catching passes in traffic but his real talent was going long and over time that became more and more his main play. That's ok but then teams learned that he could be taken out of the play if jammed, if physically challenged etc, so even those type of plays were less prevalent. AND they take more time to develop which is not good when you are facing aggressive defenses that like to pressure Brady. Right? The Patriots offense likes to have a variety of players out there ready to catch the ball. While the fly route is fine and Moss required attention, I think the coaches felt they needed more from the position then that. That's all. A guy like Branch who can make the catch in a variety of scenarios has already been more useful then Moss has.
He's been tested. He hasn't gotten those interceptions running to the other side of the field. He's been beaten too but he's doing real well for his 1st year. If it wasn't for Suh he might have even gotten some votes for DROY.
