yes, mcknight was drafte for the sole purpose that he get blocked and have a ball glance off the blockers helmet so we could recover. All of our picks lower than rd 3 were drafted just for STs:rofl: You cannot be serious? obviously they are versatile guys who can contribute on STs and that's part of the reason but we didn't draft those guys just to be STers. Smith was drafted w/ the hopes he's be a slash type guy and develop into a WR. all we can ask out of a 4th rd pick is to make solid contributions in multiple areas? as if All-Pros and HOFers have never been drafted in rd 4. leon and Smith are/were more than just solid contributors so why should we settle when we traded up to get Mcknight? this FO hasn't made many mistakes, this is one of the few mistakes so far. Mcknight has the abilityt to change that but do you have confidence in a guy that puked during rookie mini camp then showed up to TC and flunked his conditioning test?
I think it might be that they are already using 2 game day slots on fullbacks, and they have a more than able 2-man rotation at RB. Rex likes to have as many roster spots on gameday for defense as he can.
It's not really that close. Bush put up better rec totals and rec yds mostly b/c he had more opportunities. he's a below average RB and an average return man. leon from 2006-2009 had the much better career. there was talk as recent as last year about No letting Bush go, it amazes me how soon people forget. he was considered a huge disappointment until midway through last year when he went on a great run and had a good postseason.
That's a better point but the bottom line is if he showed enough to be able to contribute they'd find a way to get him touches.
You're right, its not that close. Its a foregone conclusion Bush is a better player. You ask all 32 teams which player they want, they'll never hesitate to take Bush. I'm not having this debate. Its over.
junc, are you so much of a hypocrite that you have to try to change my words to fit your argument? I constantly see you accusing people of this. Here's let's do it that tarded-ass serial post style you seem to be addicted to. Did I say that he was drafted 'just for STs '? Show me where? Now you try to build your post on top of a mis-quote of my post. I said multiple roles. junc, I don't read your posts often, but they can't all be so straw-man as this one. All we can realistically ask for, in round 4, is the average of a multiple role player who contributes to the team. Is that such an alien concept to you, junc? Yes, HOFers and All-Pros have been drafted out of the 4th. And for every HOFer and for every All-Pro there have probably been 100 or more total busts or single-role contributors who were ultimately a waste of a draft spot. Do you seriously scoff at the idea of multiple role players who aren't superstar caliber being drafted at the 4th round being worth the pick? Are you so unrealistic as that? Well, yeah, I guess you are. Joe McKnight - From Puke Bucket To Canton. It's funny that you would be so bold as to decide what is a mistake for this FO and then follow it up with such a surface-based support thought as the conditioning test and the vomit. Even from you, junc, I expected more at this point. Every year or so I find a player to root a bit more for out of spite for someone on this board. Joe McKnight is the new guy, I guess.
that was thoroughly entertaining. I think I know what's coming next, but I don't wanna jinx it by posting it.
hahaha...well played. here comes the nyjunc "I know you are, but what am I" standard retort in 3...2...1
you can't prove speculation wrong.. and a lot of his drivel is just that. speculation. he'll argue it all day. i don't get why he's so arrogant about his opinions being right when he comes off as such a troll. Junc. seriously, you act like an immature troll. this thread has gotten retarded... so much so that i felt hte need to partake in it to say it. and i don't post much. so flame on, tell me i don't know football or whatever you need to do to inflate your e-ego... this isn't banter for the sake of banter. this is "i'm right and your wrong" and its childish.
Question for junc: Out of all the 4th rounders taken at this year's draft, which ones besides Hernandez have made an "immediate" contribution? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_NFL_Draft
This was your quote: "I think we can tell just by watching Hard Knocks as if for confirmation of the obvious, that almost all players we've drafted round 3 and below since we hired Mike Westhoff has to run through the STs gauntlet and make the team that way before they can really sniff any significant playing time with one of the other 2 squads. " How come leon didn't have to do that? How come leon was getting tocuhes on O as a rookie? what about Connor? Chansi Stuckey, Kerry rhodes, Erik Coleman, etc... You act like 4th rounders are UDFAs, it's a silly argument. All teams have guys drafted rd 3 and below that are major contributors so to say you are satisfied w/ being just a contributor is silly, don't you think? I get it that you buy everything that comes out of Florham park but some of us are realistic. We don't buy the Mcknight excuse why he failed his conditioning test, there are no excuses for a skill position player failing that test especially after puking all over the field in mini camp. I'm rooting for Joe too, I root for every player that puts on a Jets uniform but I find it comical you are now rooting harder for him b/c he didn't take his job serious enough and failed his conditioning test after puking on the field at mini camp.
So it is possible for a 4th rounder to play and contribute as a rookie? Thanks, I didn't think it was possible.
Probably because the running backs ahead of him were named Kevan Barlow, Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston. Our team is stacked this year, even our 1st and 2nd round picks are having a hard time getting PT. In '06 almost every rookie was plugged immediately into the starting lineup out of need.
He was still a rookie on a team that won 10 games and made the playoffs and he had to earn his PT. remember, we acquired Barlow late in preseason and he was imediately inserted into the starting lineup and we still had other guys ahead of leon but he earned his way on the field w/ his play. Obviously the talent is better now but 2006 leon would be getting touches w/ the 2010 Jets.
It's irrelevant whether other players drafted in this year's 4th rd are big contributors. How many of those guys have contributed less than McKnight? Mcknight's claim to fame on the field is being blocked and having a ball touch the guy blocking him, how many of the other 4th rd picks have done less than him? I'll bet most have shown their teams something, McKnight has shown us nothing.
He's hardly getting any touches in Seattle, how was he going to get touches here? Sad to say he's probably never going to be the guy he was before the break. I hope Leon does well, but he's obviously not the same guy if he's not getting carries in Seattle.
By the way, TB drafted MIKE WILLIAMS in rd 4. he's doing ok, right? Alterraun Verner is starting for Ten jacoby Ford is certainly impacting Oak, right?
