The Jets have 24 sacks. The Giants have 27. Not a big diffence considering the Bears game where the Bears O-Line did not show up.

    Last 4 games:

    Giants 5 Sacks
    Jets 9 sacks

That doesn't count though, because for one, the Jets sacks were lucky and two they did it by blitzing. They're mostly just 9 miracles for the Jets and 5 hard earned sacks for the Giants.

You would admit there is a huge difference whena D can generate a pass rush w/o having to blitz, right? It's not always the sack #s, it's the pressures and until the other night we hadn't been harrassing QBs all year.

Yes but isn't our defense the same as Jim Johnson's was in Philly. Generate pressure with blitz packages. and he was routinely praised around the league for his work.

Obviously there's a difference in schemes. Rex Ryan's scheme is based on blitzing and man coverage. If there's something wrong with that, then I love him being wrong.

The difference is outsode of the other night we aren't generating any type of pass rush.

There's nothing wrong w/ it when it works, it hasn't worke most of this year.

Teams have been max protecting a lot to counter the blitzes, but it leaves them with fewer guys running routes. The D hasn't given up many points though (4th PPG) and is 3rd in YPG. So while we haven't consistently been able to pressure the QB (until recently) it's because opponents are giving up something to stop the pressure and it's obviously not helping all that much.

I would like to see better execution at the end of a couple of those games but for the most part they've been pretty good. Remember the D got better at the end of the year last year - hopefully the same happens this year.

The previous 2 weeks the D nearly blew games for us collapsing late and opposing QBs have had no problems passing on our D- it's to the backs, TEs and slot receivers as the top 2 WRs are being talen away but they are getting it done. Our D has the potential to be a great one, Thursday was a nice step. I hope we see more defensive efforts like that one going forward.

I have confidence in the talent we have and the coaches we have, let's see them take it to the next level

It's nice to have such high expectations for our defense, isn't it?

I suspect we'll see some things from the defense this week that we haven't seen all year. Rex seems very focused on having his team playing there best at the end of the year and I'm sure he's had this game circled on his calendar for a while.

Absolutely and it would be nicer if they fulfilled those expectations. I never really thought we had an elite D last year but I thought we were close, I thought w/ the changes made we'd take that next step. we've had some highs and lows on D but it has not been an elite D this year yet. A year ago we got rolled in our rematch w/ NE, that cannot happen this time w/ the average weapons Brady has around him.

I agree with all of that. I honestly thought this D had the potential to be an all-time great defense. We're no where near that level yet. Maybe they can still get there, but I've tempered my hope on that one.

Our D isn't elite because of the pass rush. Our pass rush is pathetic this year. There's no pressure even in the all out blitzes teams manage to block the Jets players. It makes no sense. If the Jets could send in 4 or 5 guys and get pressure on every play, the defense would be scary.

But a lot of that is because teams are max protecting and sacrificing on the other end (less receivers). You can't argue that the D has held teams down for the most part. We're 4th in PPG and 3rd in YPG on defense.

I certainly don't think we have an elite defense but the lack of consistent pass rush is because teams are selling out to stop it.
