He was trying to throw punches but Johnson was too busy fucking him up, and he started it by grabbing onto AJ when AJ pushed him after basically punching his helmet right in the mask. They're going to receive the same punishment, most likely.
He's a good (though overrated) corner but he's also a shitstain and draws stupid penalties all the time. The way he plays the game does not make him an asset. So what if he didn't throw a punch? He instigated the thing and he ripped Andre's helmet off. He clearly deserved to get ejected.
He's an alright corner and very physical but thinks he's better than he is (even though he did acknowledge Revis' greatness this past offseason), he talks a lot of shit, and he takes a lot of cheap shots. Plus he's mad ugly and just an annoying player in general. I remember when we played the Titans back in 08 while they were 10-0, on a Seminole we had Favre lined up out wide and when the ball was snapped Finnegan tried taking him the fuck out but Favre managed to stand him up.
did you even watch the play? Finnegan threw the first punch, at :03 of the first video, he was just fucking stupid and did it while Johnson still had his helmet on. I hate it when people try to play devils advocate without even grasping the situation.
I think just watching the video of the fight and its aftermath without any prior knowledge of Cortland Finnegan would be enough for someone to find him very unlikeable.
That's fair enough, although they both looked pretty keen to dance. I'm not disputing the negative views of him, just wondered what the history was to make him so apparently universally unpopular.
Fuck no, Sean Avery is an agitator. He'll chirp to the other team and get them riled and get hit/hooked and most times it won't be called because the refs know what's up. He's not an instigator like Finnegan in this case, he flat out threw out the first punch on the line of scrimmage.
Finnegan is involved in post whistle bullshit at least 10x a year. This time he picked on the wrong guy and AJ fucked him up. I don't really blame him either. The Texans are just about outta the playoffs, might as well knock out the punk from your division rival. Take the fine and hope the guy learns his lesson
Fisher deserves a fair share of blame, too. He encourages this shit...Finnegan may be the worst piece of trash on the team, but Fisher's no stranger to these sort of players. If you watch their games, they love to sneak in late hits and cheap shots. I remember Josh McDaniels calling them out on it earlier (I know his word probably doesn't mean much), but it's no secret here. Didn't Haynesworth also get ejected back when he was on the Titans for curb stomping some dude's face? ^ EDIT: Good old YouTube comes through (actual scene is around the 1:45 mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwxMRPTsYeo
Gonna have to disagree on Finnegan's ejection.. it was deserved..he wrenched Johnson's helmet off. They both deserved to pack up and go home. I don't condone this sort of thing coming to blows, but that Finnegan guy had it coming. It's a shame Johnson didn't manage to KO his ass there on the field.
Finnegan is known around the league as being the biggest shit talking piece of shit. He got what he deserves... Goodell knows the deal about Finnegan also. Both players deserve to be fined but IMO on Finnegan should be suspended.
It would be so awesome if Finnegan got suspended, in addition to getting his ass beat and humiliated, and AJ only got fined. I guess it's possible with Finnegan's past conduct. I doubt it's going to play out that way, but we can dream.
The NFL has announced that Johnson will not be suspended. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nfl/101129-andre-johnson-will-not-be-suspended
It might be steep, but Finnegan was the one that threw the first punch. Finnegan initially took a shot at Andre's face mask/helmet when Andre got upset, and took off Finnegan's helmet. Then Finnegan threw the first punch at Andres face (helmet) when Andre was like, "bitch, where's my cookie?" and threw a couple of hooks followed by an upper cut. Now that I watched that fight, I can't wait for my Fight Night 4 to come in the mail.
