Yes, but should they try to get him some playing experience against a bad Bengals team if the Jets are up by a couple of TD's? I would say yes, because if Woody's injury is worse than expected and something happens to Hunter guess whos' gonna start.

This is why I wanted the Jets to bring in an experienced backup lineman in the offseason. Somebody like Randy Thomas or Mawae, just in case.

That depends, are we up big enough to pull sanchez? if mark is in there I don't want Vlad in there no matter what the score is.

Vlad played tackle at UMass, so that may be his natural position. At least he could be active and get in a couple of plays.

    When?

Only with a Buffalo-esque sized lead do I want him near the field, and with 5 minutes in the 4th quarter with the 2nd team in. Brunell and McKnight in the backfield.

Even with that he won't be active. But with Woody out he'll actually be active so it can happen. But first, the Jets need to win a game by more than 6 pts in the final seconds.

I do not think anyone here can answer the question with anything other than speculation.

More than likely Vlad is nowhere close to being ready. But we do not know that. We are not at practice. And we have no idea if Vlad has seen much or any work learning the right tackle postion of this offense. The consensus here thinks it was the logical choice to groom him to replace Woody, so perhaps that is where his focus has been.

The two coaches I trust most on this team is Westhoff and Callahan, so whatever Bill deems appropriate I support.

I think it's safe to say if Vlad was ready he would have either been inserted at LG when Slauson got hurt or inserted at RT when Woody got hurt.

I doubt they thought he'd be this much of a project. If you draft a lineman in the second (and they claim they would have drafted him in the first but for Wilson's availability) you expect that player to be ready to start from day one. Ducasse can't even make the active roster. I'm not saying he'll never be a good player but right now he's underperformed reasonable expectations.

I was surprised that wasn't the case, and several analyst made a comment about this too. Sanchez may be mobile but why push your luck?As for the original post, if Woody can't go, I'd stick with Hunter.

Hunter. He got game time reps, and will get reps w/ 1st team this week during practice.

I think Rex believes what he says. I don't think he is going to praise a player that he thinks sucks. He believes that his players can get the job done. Do you think he is running players out there who he thinks suck? Rex says what he thinks, stop trying to overanalyze it.

Sometimes you don't have a choice who to run out there, other times he does like w/ Joe McKnight and despite all the praise he has heaped on him has he played any meaningful snaps? No. He is trying to build confidence in his players, he always talks up his players. It's really not that difficult to figure out what he is doing.

You're just wrong. Actions speak louder than words. He's been praising Gholston for two years but rarely playing him. He praised the hell out of Kerry Rhodes last year, until he benched him. He praised the hell out of Thomas Jones until they cut him. He praised the hell out of Fanecca, but once they let him go there were a lot of anonymous whispers from Jets sources about how Fanecca just couldn't pass block any more. Ducasse was a monster talent who is coming along nicely, but he doesn't even make the active roster as a backup guard.

Ryan has every reason to be positive about players in public (get the fans psyched about the team, maintain player's trade value, motivate players and make them love him) and almost never has a reason to rip a guy in public.

Vlad is a Tackle by trade, he should be much more comfortable playing Tackle then he ever was playing guard

Rhodes: Traded for arguing with Leonhard/DT

Jones: Cut because he wouldn't restructure his roster bonus

Faneca: Cut because he couldn't pass block (This is true, statistics show he was at the bottom of the league in sacks allowed) and he had a big contract.

Gholston: 2 QB pressures over the last 2 weeks. Gholston never saw the field with Mangini. Edit: Should also be noted that because VG loves Rex, he restructured his contract to not be guaranteed, which we should be thankful for.

    Ducasse: Tackle, not a guard.

Jones would have come back for the same amount he signed for in KC which was similar to what LT signed for. They chose LT over Jones and b/c of his pass acthing ability it looks like it was the right move.

Rhodes was traded b/c of his play, salary, and attitude not for arguing w/ Leonhard.

Faneca was cut b/c of $$$$

If Gholston didn't restructure he would have been out of a job.

Jones: Junc, he had a roster bonus for this year that would have brought his salary up to around 5m, the Jets wanted to restructure that, Jones didn't.

Rhodes: Part of his Attitude was directed toward Leonhard because he was running the defense on the field.

Faneca was close to, if not the worst pass blocking LG in the league last year, though i agree about the money, it still stands that he's a terrible pass protector these days

Rex claims Gholston came in and did that by himself cause he saw the salary issues the jets were having. I believe Rex over you

I get that about Jones, they let him go then they signed LT for similar $ to what jones got in KC. if they wanted Jones back he would have been back.

rex and tannenbaum are not making personnel decisions based on how players act towards Leonhard.

If faneca had a reasonable salary he would still be here, it was all about the money. They thought they could get by w/ one of the young guys at a much lower cost.

Don't believe everything rex tells us. If gholston doesn't accept the pay cut he would have been gone- did you see Clemens on hard Knocks? Similar situation.
