The problem is he's played like a number one corner so he's going to be incredibly expensive. It's all moot until we see the new cap rules. I'm pessimistic; I think the owners have the players over the barrel and the salary cap will be essentially the same as it is now going forward, and if I'm right that means Tannenbaum is going to be up all night wearing an accountants' green visor trying to figure out how to make the cap work, because it's going to be tight.
Yes but the Jets are going to be picking very late in the first (32 anyone?), and are losing either a second or a third for Cromartie (it's got to be a second, right? I've never seen the conditions reported but he's played pretty much every down this season), and then will have a late third round pick. It's really hard to get a game-ready ROLB or LDE drafting in those spots. Maybe you can fill one slot in the first round if you do a bang up job, but third round pass rushers are usually projects.
One and Three are good spots to find guys to step in, however my sarcasm was directed at the guy singling out Pace without accounting for the lack of production in front of and across from him.
What are you talking about? This D-line has been good enough to take up guys and allow a pass rush to happen. Devito, Pouha, Ellis are good enough to hold the O-line so we can get some sacks. I blame most of this on our LBs. What I'm saying is: Because we're strapped for cash and it looks likely that we want to draft a pass rushing OLB, given the option of getting rid of Thomas or Pace, I'd say get rid of Pace because he costs more.
Pace and Thomas are making almost the same money. Pace is more dynamic when he's healthy, but he hasn't been. They'll both stay until their contracts expire, but they need a kid to groom behind them.
The biggest hope is that with success, and an atmosphere that makes guys want to play for Rex, the team would be able to get some guys a little cheaper than other teams would. The Pats were doing that in the middle of their run, so hopefully, it can happen here. I still hold out a sliver of hope that the team can keep both WRs, Harris, and Cro, and then perhaps look for some youth in the front seven, namely at NT and OLB, in the draft.
It seems with the survey mentioned in another thread, a lot of players do wish to play for Rex. He could be like Belichick with those earlier Pats, only human and likable.
