When do you guys expect Schotty to open this secret weapon up? I think it will come against the Patriots and their young defense that won't be ready for it. When do you guys think we are going to take advantage of this skill or will we ever?
I'm not really expecting Shotty to ever pass with Brad Smith. Last year he didn't really pass at all until the playoffs.
It wouldn't make sense to wait until it matters the most to try out that secret weapon. I expect it to come in the next few weeks.
I think it should utilized at some point... it'd almost be a waste to have a former QB running the option to never give it a shot down the field. I'm glad they don't throw very often, which keeps the defense more inclined to defend the run, but down the stretch it's a great trick play to have at our disposal.
I think it will come week 17 when we are up 20 in the middle of the 3rd with home field locked up. Just because we can.
They did call an LT pass play but it wasn't open and he ran it. I think that was against Green Bay. I suspect we'll pull out all the stops against the Patriots. That game could very well be the difference between the #1 or #2 seed and the #5 seed.
Shotty having extra time to prepare for that game worries me. Who knows what he is going to unveil that game. That being said, I am a proponent of having Smith toss a pass here and there to at least keep the defense honest. It's not like Ronnie Brown running the wildcat, Smith was a legit QB in college. And he threw a deep ball in the playoffs last year, which worked pretty well.
Doesnt Smith already have a TD pass this year? Or maybe it was a 2pt Conversion... not sure but Im prett sure it happened this year and was successful. Here it is.
It will come in the playoffs. I'm sure Schotty was itching for it yesterday against the dead last pass D in the Texans, but I think he feels we need to disguise the WC with power runs or off tackle to set up the home run in January. Can you imagine a playoff game getting blown open by a Brad Smith/Santonio connection for a TD after a team plays run?
Not sure when it will happen, but I expect it to be well diguised. Perhaps Greene and Smith in the backfield with LT taking the snap. Option right, toss to Smith, hitting Holmes over the middle on a slant.
