That's how those good seasons are followed by 3 shitty ones. If the Jets are not players in Free Agency, they can keep both. Holmes will be expensive. When you're playing this well, you get paid. Not yet. He's still plays at a high level and is a staple on the line. I'm all for seeing the big picture, but Ellis is a guy that hasn't lost it yet, and doesn't slow down at the end of the season. His erratic history is because of the schemes played in SD. Its funny how the times he plays in a man to man scheme he does well. He'll be this way for a long time. He also has learned to attempt to tackle running backs. He slowed down Peyton Hillis a couple of times against Cleveland. My mouth hit the floor. The little things count. There aren't many Brad Smiths out there. He stays. Denard Robinson isn't declaring yet. Tanny is already working on these things. We can too. I do agree that its bad timing on a Sunday. My mind is a little fried.
No, it would involve turning some of his 2011 base salary into a bonus so it is spread over the life of the contract, lowering the cap hit next year.
My bad on that timing but I know I wont have to much time this week and really wanted to bring this topic up. Theres always time for tomorrow as well :up::up:
Hmmm, if you put it that way then yes that sort of deal would be excellent for the Jets . Hopefully similar things could be done with Jenkins contract if he's not cut.
Come on now, obviously I don't want Mike Tannenbaum and the front office taking the attitude "fuck the offseason." I'm just saying that most Jets fans have never seen this level of success, and we are legitimate Super Bowl contenders right now. Enjoy the ride instead of worrying about what you're gonna do when it's over. The Jets probably can keep them both, I just don't think they will. They've got a lot of guys to pay, and having 3 top receivers is a luxury not a necessity. I think that Ellis is starting to really trend downwards, but there's no reason that they can't keep him--I doubt that he's expecting a big pay day at this point in his career. When I said he's replaceable, I meant just that--he can be replaced. If he's willing to take a reasonable deal I'd be happy to have him back. It goes beyond that--he's been a malcontent in the lockerroom and him and his 30 kids don't exactly project stability. Cro's not gonna get a lot of guaranteed money until he proves that he can string a few productive years together in a row. Which is our gain, because it'll probably allow us to afford to keep him. I also really want Smith to stay, he's one of my favorite players on the team. I'm just saying that if it comes down to it, the harsh reality is that losing him isn't going to kill the team. There are tons of good return men out there, LT can run the wildcat, and Westhoff is too good a coach to let one player's departure ruin his unit. My overall point is that the Jets have flexibility. They have a lot of guys to get signed, yes, but they only need to work out 2 huge deals (Harris and Holmes.)
I have a bad feeling Ellis won't be back next year. Not because of his performance but because of his age (and the fact that he was on the trading block this past offseason). I don't follow your logic when you say he's replaceable though. Do you think he's a weak link in our defense when right now we have two backups on our defensive line, our OLBs are invisible 96% of the time, and our situation at safety is a little questionable, to say the least? I get the impression that some people neither watch Ellis play nor know what a 3-4 DE does. Almost any individual guy CAN be replaced (almost), but there is absolutely no reason to replace someone like Ellis. And he will clearly accept a reasonable deal; the question is will it be offered.
edwards because of the dui and possible suspension prolly will come rly cheap since most teams wont touch the situation with him
But Santonio can go vertical...He did this every week in a Steelers uniform, he goes in slants, slots, up, left, right, high, low...He has hands of glue, feet of a ballerina, mentality of a Juggernaut. I want Holmes 9 times out of 10 over Braylon. I think the Jets know that he will cost more, but Holmes loves working with Sanchez and he is a MVP
Yep. Its easy to know who's better and who shows up in crucial situations. Braylon has done well here, but he's not in Holmes' territory. Not even close.
If the Jets won the SB this season I wouldn't care if they sucked granny teat for the following 10 years
Its a fear of mine. But, you tell a player with that kind of talent that if he fucks up in anyway he has to sacrifice a season of what he loves most - he'll never do it again. And tone just seems like such a nice person. In press conferences he's a determined, confident guy who never comes across as a rules violator. I think he'll be fine. I hope for his, the Jets, and our sake.
And if you saw Hard Knocks...you know Tanny has man-love for #10. I am sure he will do his best to keep Holmes. He prides himself in making robberies and cap magic...I expect him to make it known that he stole Holmes like the Grinch stole Christmas.
It's all about the ways the contracts are structured. And nobody is better when it comes to that than Mr. T. I have full confidence in him to make it work. There is some fat to be trimmed from this payroll to make the players fit. If Ellis is back, he will have a much lower cap number. Thomas or Pace is likely to be cut. Taylor is a goner. Jenkins will be gone or brought back at a reduced number as more of a role player. Woody could work out a slightly reduced number. I think Tanny will get it done.
Rex has man love for him too. That fucker did cost him a ring The guy is an absolute beast. The Sanchez-Holmes connection will become well known very soon.
In my dreams, I will envision it as the second coming of Montana-to-Rice But only in my dreams though...for now
