First off ill start by saying this , YES I know the off season is too far away to worry about. Now that thats out of the way Id like to discuss a topic of huge concern to me. Out of all of our 53 man roster next year obviously depending on the CBA deal we are looking at a ROUGH re-signing schedule and Im very afraid we may lose some great players. Plenty of these threads will be made I get that, but now that we've seen some decent production from these certain players we can have a good evaluation of there value to us as a team. Our Top Free Agents for next year would be: ( No particular order) David Harris Antonio Cromartie Santonio Holmes Braylon Edwards Shaun Ellis 2nd Tier: Brad Smith Brodney Pool Drew Coleman James Ihedigbo Nick Folk 3rd Tier: Wayne Hunter Robert Turner Eric Smith Kellen Clemens Mark Brunell My question is how do we even go about getting any of these players the right contracts? Do we have enough money to keep the most important and impactful Jets?If those major players arent signed we may have a lot lesser of a team next season. What are your thoughts, what does the money look like, and can the right players be signed ?
1st tier preference: Holmes Harris Cromartie Ellis Edwards (assuming Holmes is resigned) 2nd tier: Smith Coleman Pool 3rd tier: Brunell Smith Turner
Can we wait until next sunday when the Jets aren't playing? I can't think about this right now. Its just been too long of a day. And I love discussing the offseason.
Whats so bad about dicussing the off-season, Holmes value has risen , Cro's has, Edwards has, Brad Smith's has, its a whole new game now in the off-season. Chill ya ballzzz .
1) We're 8-2. Fuck the offseason. 2) One of Holmes/Edwards is gonna be gone. Ellis has become replaceable. Cromartie hasn't yet earned a long term deal (10 good games doesn't erase his erratic history in San Diego.) Of the 2nd and 3rd tier guys, only Brad Smith is really irreplaceable (and, frankly, having Smith as a special teams ace / wildcat operator is great but probably doesn't make a consistent impact on our record.) So you're really only looking at 2-3 big contracts that have to be worked out. Given Tanny's record, I have faith in him to get it done. Now can we please focus on the awesome team we have instead of worrying about what we'll look like when it's gone?
harris and the recievers are most important harris is arguably the best defender on the team and holmes and edwards both seem invalueable this season
Until we see what the new CBA looks like we have no idea what we can realistically expect Tanny to do with all these guys.
I think Harris, Cromartie, and Holmes are all going to be restricted after this season so we can just max tender them and then work out long term contracts.
I mean, he may not be replaceable from a leadership standpoint--I don't know what goes on in the Jets lockerroom and I don't pretend to. But his on-field performance has been nothing special this year. It's my preference to have him back, but he'd be my lowest priority of your "tier 1" guys by far.
They'll try and restructure Sanchez's contract, and I wouldn't be surprised if both Woody and B. Thomas are gone.
Wouldn't restructuring his deal involve more money though? Maybe added incentives but increasing his salary we just cant do yet even though Id love to lock him up.
