So at least one team in the top five after week 11 have made it to the Super Bowl, and the two Super Bowl teams were both in the top five 3 out of 5 years. I was curious, so I looked it up. Not saying the rankings mean anything, but it doesn't look like they're completely wrong either.
was it really that difficult to pick the pats or the colts in those years? LOL. If anybody needs a power ranking to tell them who the best teams in the NFL are - they aren't very smart when it comes to football.
Top 5 teams in Week 11 ESPN Power Rankings in the last few years: 2009: Saints, Colts, Vikings, Bengals, Patriots 2008: Titans, Giants, Panthers, Steelers, Redskins 2007: Patriots, Cowboys, Colts, Packers, Steelers 2006: Colts, Bears, Chargers, Broncos, Ravens 2005: Colts, Broncos, Steelers, Panthers, Seahawks *Teams in bold made it to the Super Bowl that year.
Hate to dig this up again but ESPN has dropped us in the power rankings from 3 to 4 under the Ravens even though we are 8-2 and they are 7-3 just because they beat up on the worst team in the NFL this past weekend.Again no respect for the Jets.Just sayin
I really do think it's because we've only beaten one team with a winning record and we continue to go to the very limit in beating a bunch of bad teams. If we beat NE again or Pitt (or both), we'll get the proper respect.
True the only playoff team we beat this year is New England.Guess we will have to do it again along with Pittsburg to earn some respect.
You know if the roles were reversed, we'd all be screaming that Pitt or the Pats are struggling against a bunch of crappy teams or that they beat one good team but got shutdown at home against the 2 other good teams they played. I think it's fair criticism.
Yea, but so could the Pats. Ravens, Chargers, Colts could all have beaten them. Sure, the quality of opposition is better, but they're pulling out wins at the end, too.
After Thursday night game, the schedule for the Jets is a bit tough and I hope we can beat all of them.
I don't really put much stock in Power Rankings either, but I guess this shows that they're not completely irrelevant or off-base.
Is it any shock that a high % of teams making the Super Bowl would be ranked in the Top 5 after Week 11? I mean, that's already ~2/3rds of the way through the season. Even if you just ranked teams in order of record, you'd have a really good idea of who is going to make the playoffs and have home games, and those teams obviously have the best shot of making the Super Bowl. Nothing surprising here.
Jets are back in power ranking top 3 The New York Jets have been playing their best football since Joe Namath was their quarter back in the 60’s. Speaking of quarterbacks, Mark Sanchez has proven to critics like Espn, Fox Sports, & CBS Sports that the New York Jets can play football. It is important to remember that the season is not over. The New York Jets have to prove to the league that they are a winning team. I truly hope that the Jets win the Superbowl because they truly deserve a big win with their incredible head coach Rex Ryan.
I think winning the Superbowl is going to be an easier task than makin it there.I dont see them losin if they make it to the big game just not gonna happen. Its the rough road in the AFC through the playoffs that is gonna be the hard part!
if you look at the most balanced team in the AFC you have to start with the Jets...they can win with defense, offense, or special teams. No aspect of their team is really a liability. If Tom Brady isn't near perfect the Pats will struggle because of their defense, same with the Colts with no running game...the Ravens offense still isn't consistent and their secondary has been abused at times, the Steelers have so many injuries on both sides of the ball if they get to 5 losses they might miss the playoffs in a competitive AFC. The NFC you have to love Atlanta at home, they have 3 straight road games in a row coming up - Tampa, Car, and Sea - not really murderers row so they might be home come playoffs. Dec 27 they get a visit from NO and that game could decide home field in the NFC. The Bears are as good as Jay Cutler plays...today he was solid along with the D, but if he starts turning the ball over they are done. Tampa...might make the playoffs but who believes in them?
More for the fact that the Jets play the Bears in a couple than the playoff matchups, I watched them last night and they looked good. They've got a good pass rush without blitzing. Peppers is a great player, and he's playing well now. Cutler was mixing up the receivers, getting them in the game, although Philly was decimated in the backfield. If Chicago plays like that against the Jets, that will be a tough game, but enough about that until they are next up in the schedule.
