    Hear me out...

Cromartie is playing really well this season and probably he'll ask for a pretty big deal. Also, although I'm not sure, maybe one of the conditions that make us cough up a 2nd rd pick instead of a 3rd for Cro is wether we re-sign him or not (if anyone knows please say it).

Asomugha's contract says in 2011 the Raiders have to either give him 17 mill or the average of the top 5 QB salary, whichever is greater. Otherwise he'll be a FA (can't tag him). I don't think the Raiders will keep him around for that much money... and Aso has already earned 30+ mills in only 2 years.

In my opinion while Cro will be looking to cash in on his big season (rightfully so, the man has earned his money and has never earned BIG) Aso will look to go to a team that's a contender to finally have a shot at winning something.
He won't do it for free of course but I think at this stage of his career and with the money he's earned he won't only look at the $$$.

Also he's very friend with Revis and understands that with him and Revis on the same team we might be looking at the greatest CB duo of all time! And I think Aso is a guy who cares about stuff like this...

So what do you say, any chance this happens? How much money do you think a guy like Aso would be willing to leave on the table to come to a contender? Would you prefer to just keep Cro?

if he doesnt want outrageous money then sure. im more interested in a outside linebacker who can get to the QB.

Well, i dont think its an absurd idea that he would maybe take a pay cut to play opposite revis and play for rex and this defence.

It all depends on the new CBA honestly. Plus i feel we have to take care of a lot of other well deserving players actually playing for us rite now (Harris, Edwards and maybe Holmes if he can get more involved) before we can even think about making a play for Aso.

    It would be fantastic tho

Agreed... I was just thinking about how unique a situation a guy like Aso is in.

Elite player who has never been to the play-offs.

    Has earned tons of money.

Is practically a sure thing to become a FA because of how his contract is written.

Has a close relationship with one of our players (Revis) who is both a friend and enemy (they battle every year for best CB in the league).

Yeah I agree... in fact I'm proposing either to take care of Cro or to get him... imo it HAS to be one of the two because of the style of D we play.

Cromartie at his deal will be a better investment than Asomugha at whatever deal he would cost.

We can't have that much money in the secondary, especially with more important signings to be made:

    David Harris
    Holmes/Edwards

+ Cro (younger and cheaper than Aso, and still a shutdown corner)

He will leave a sum of zero dollars on the table.

    Cromartie is fine.

Are you guys sure Cro will sign for a lot less money than Aso? I think Cro will demand for a pretty big deal... how many kids does he have to feed :p?

Aso will demand more money because he's the better player.

There is a market for both of them, and they will get paid. Let's not have any delusions about it.

Like LeBron, Bosh and Wade? I don't agree... he won't play for free but imo he will accept less money to go to a team he likes more...

The Raiders are quietly becoming a competitive team. I think he'll stay in Oakland.

Aso was raised in California, he played college ball at Cal-Berkeley, and he's spent his entire career with the Raiders. I just have a feeling he'll be a Raider for life.

I Agree the raiders are slowly becoming a competitive team, in fact they may win the division and we might see them in the playoffs.

I think someone like ASO who got such a big deal in the first place is not inclined to accept less money, it's already gotten to this head and his team is slowly getting better. Even though Oakland is a crap hole of a city

    Its an absurd idea.

Cromarties contract will be farrrrrr less than Aso's anyway.

Yeah Cromartie showed mad coverage skills this year, but he still has had a ton of penalties and is a tackling liability.

Will the man get a great contract, absolutely.

Will he be a top 10 paid corner, incredibly unlikely.

Crazy idea. That will have a ridiculous amount of money tied up in just one position. Corner is not a weakness for us where we will have some weaknesses in depth and also age at a few other positions.

The Jets helped Cro out when he first got here (giving him $$ for his offspring dilemmas)

I would like to believe that he would remember that come contract time.

If these players are truly as happy as they say they are here in NY with Rex, then they should be lining up at Tanny's door volunteering to take a pay cut to keep this team intact.

remember what happened when chad tied up too much of the cap? we had to let ol guys walk and replaced them with turnstyles. then, we saw one shoulder injury after another - so the money all sunk at one position was wasted. teams that are consistently great , like steelers, set a limit on an area of the team, and will let a guy walk if he wants too much.
