A 3rd RB to be developed & added to mix, & a pass-rusher. Jets need these two ingredients to reach the next level. That 3rd RB should be a mixture of Green & Tomlinson...This is really a 3 RB league {NY Giants Superbowl run}. By end of season LT or Greene will be battered & Jets will be in playoff game with 1 healty RB...same situation as last year against Colts ??? Now is that RB on current roster....I don't know, but Jets need to find out. Maybe Brad Smith ...out of the backfield ??? Pass-rusher...Is he on roster or practice squad ??? Again, I don't know.... These 2 ingredients are needed & would make Jets play-off run alot more successful. P.S....Watching Packers/Vikings game last Sunday & Packers {DC} Dom Capers had there 2 best pass-rushers lined up (blitzing) on same side & it gave Vikings fits all game....Jets need to try some new Defensive blitz formations ???
Big problem w/ getting a pass rusher is that every season every team in the NFL wants to add one. Even teams w/ top DL would add another pass rusher if they could & just rotate the lineman to keep them fresh. Jets can try to get a pass rusher but it's going to be tough. Similar to the qb position, really talented ones rarely drop in draft & teams will hold them for multiple seasons of non-production just hoping the potential kicks in. == As for 3rd RB: it would be nice if McKnight were ready to step up & contribute this season. LT is someone I'm worried about the grind wearing him down before playoffs ... which is why I'm happy Greene's touches seem to be going up now. I think Greene is young & durable enough to take the hits & still produce in playoffs but what the heck do I know. == Huge improvement I'm hoping for because it wouldn't require any additional talent or dramatic player improvement is better red zone offense efficiency. Jets O is gaining the yards & can put together long drives but scoreboard doesn't reflect it enough.
McKnight is our 3rd RB. Hopefully, we won't need him but he's probably already good enough to throw out there and give LDT or Greene a rest if one of them is injured. Our pass rushers are Pace and Taylor. Both are playing hurt right now but will get healthier as the season goes on.
We are not adding a pass rusher at this point in the season. What we got is what we got. Trade deadline has passed. Those moves have to be made in the off season.
One positive sign is that on our last defensive snap Ellis, Taylor and Pace all met at the Quarterback and Taylor got him. Sign of things to come hopefully.
He won't be 100% all year. His foot is fixed but it doesn't feel very good right now based on what Rex and Pace have said to the media.
He's listed as Probable/Foot every week on the injury report. Plus, if you saw him interviewed in the hallway after the game on SNY last week he looked real sore and slow. Reporter asked about it and he kind of said he was fine, that's the NFL...
Right now what you see is pretty much what you're going to get. Neither Greene or Tominson are being what could be called overworked. Barring injuries they'll be fine. Needing a pass rusher is the understatement of the century. I predict the secret weapon Vernon Gholsten to be unleashed and WREAK HAVOC on the league down the stretch!!! Shh, this is double secret probation material..
This is not a 3 RB team. Besides that one NYG team, how many other teams won SB with 3 RBs that had significant roles? How many RBs did Saints have last year? (Reggie Bush is more of a WR than an RB). How about the Steelers x2, Colts, Patriots x3? The Bucs? You don't need 3 RB to magically become a SB team. In fact, a lot of the teams still have one RB while the 2nd RB only steps in on situational plays or to give the #1 RB some rest. They probably carry around 6-8 times a game. Jets don't need a 3rd RB. Injuries can occur at anytime to anyone. You can't possibly predict an injury. Should we carry two kickers and two punters then? Who doesn't like a pass rusher? Is there a team that can say "we don't need another pass rusher"? I don't understand why you would post this during the season. Trade deadline has passed and there aren't any pro bowlers roaming around on the streets that can be had. This thread should have been posted about 7-8 months ago.
Yeah any group of players could have done that, they all just happened to be the one's Rex trusted to be on the field.
Wonder if the scouts have been scoping out the UFL and seen anything they like? I think we may see a good amount of signings around the league once the UFL season ends... hopefully the Jets have their eye on a diamond in the rough.
The lack of a premiere pass rusher is hurting this team, but not to the point where it is costing them games. They still come up with ways to get the QB, but the 4 man rush is pretty bad. Getting pressure with just 4 is pretty essential.
Pace and Ellis are both indispensable to our pass-rush and thus far they've both disappointed (Pace because of his foot & Ellis because of knee/age)... hope they pick it up because DeVito and Pouha are both solid DL but mainly run blockers or good at picking up 2 OL.
our true weakness is pass defense over the middle against rb's and te's. we have stout lb'ers that shut down the run and we have revis/crom that shut down the deep ball. we have been and will continue to get killed on slants and te's running seam routes. look for more zone coverage and less man to man.
I think your only hope there is if Gholston comes into form...haha, I know its a long shot, but I think thats the only possible solution. We can't trade and I doubt anyone in the free agency is even worth it. I also still wish we had Woodhead, he would've been the perfect 3rd option this year. McKnight is such a bust (this year).
