My 8 year old could stand still on his own for the minute or two (if that) it would take. There is no mixing it up. There's getting F*ng injured. If the guy is still in the ground (assuming it's a tackle) it's over in 10 seconds. If he manages to get up it takes about 10 seconds for that snap kick to the balls puts him back down. It ain't boxing. There are no Marquis of Queensbury rules. The intent is to do GBH as quickly and effectively as is humanly possible. 90% of assholes assume you're going to try to box with them.
That was my point earlier. I'll easily have the guy down within seconds and the quickness of it will keep others at bay. When it comes to family, adrenaline is at an all time high and I don't care who you are or how big you are, I'm going to kick your ass and shut you down.

Two very strong opposing side to this story, yet the details are very sketchy. Perhaps the Dad is a lightweight guy and the drunken tackler and his mates are huge MFers. In this case, if it were me, I'd take my kid away to safety and report the incident to authorities. I don't want my kids seeing their Dad reacting with violence to resolve a situation. Yes, I would be furious. Yes, I'd want to stomp on this guys larrox, but not in front of my kid. Let the authorities deal with this appropriately.

SD youre usually a voice of reason, and that's commendable. It's also why your people were used as machine gun bait at Gallipoli. REALLY put yourself in this situation man. Your kid will have one or two school yard fights in his day. He'll see something on tv with lots of violence. The fact of the matter is, your own blood, your son, after all of the diaper changes, late nights doing homework, and all of that, at one of his first football games with his dad just got attacked by a drunken moron. It's personal at that point. You really gonna take the bitch way out, or are you gonna show your son that you, his father, will protect him as long as you can no matter what?

We've had two high profile cases here in the last few years of guys being king hit from behind, head hitting pavement and ending up dead. Kids are orphans. I'm not leaving 3 kids and a wife behind to satisfy my macho side by getting into a carpark scrap with drunken opposition fans. Call it cowardly if you like. Wait until you have kids. Things were very different in my single days but now I'm the provider and trying to set an example to them. I'd imagine that some dumb drunk accidentally fell on the kid and the family, being scared after getting hazed/razzed by other assholes, high-tailed it to the car.
