Sanchez is going to have one hell of a say in who stays and who goes this off-season. I'm not saying he's going to have the final word, but Tanny is definitely going to ask him who he has better chemistry with.
If theres a season next year and the cap were to remain the same the Jets have approx 25m in cap room correct? + 4million from Jenkins leaves them at 29-30m. (Also if they decide to part ways with Woody thats more). Harris will command about 9m? Cromartie 7-8? Edwards 5m (because of his dwi and off the field problems he should come cheaper) and holmes around 6-7m? These are rough guesses but I can see atleast 3 being brought back.
He has like 15 kids he needs to feed. I doubt he will take less money to stay here if offered more from another team.
I want Edwards over Holmes. Sanchez looked fine when Edwards wasn't here. Cromartie we might need, but I think if we have a better pass rusher Cromartie won't be as important.
Holmes is one of the most clutch receivers in the game. Edwards does not step up in big situations. Edwards leaves if it comes down to it. Holmes is a much better receiver. Never let the measurables fool you. And when it comes to chemistry, give Holmes and Sanchez time.
Agreed. Harris is #1 in my eyes as well. Sure, it would be nice to keep Holmes, but it's not a necessity. We made it to the AFC Championship game last year when Sanchez was a ROOKIE and there was no Holmes. Keller has stepped up this year as well. We have no problem doing just as good or better than last year without Holmes, although he has been playing good.
Holmes and Edwards are a very nice luxury to have. Surely they would give a huge boost to Sanchez developement. But Harris is not a luxury, he's needed in this team. Losing Harris to keep Holmes and Edwards is like selling the house so you can buy a PC and a TV. (anyway, I don't know how, but I'm not worried about it... in Tanny I trust... I'm confident he'll handle this and I won't be surprised if he manages to sign all 4)
I feel like Holmes is more unique than Edwards. We can always draft a big-bodied deep threat, finding a guy with the speed and clutchness of Holmes is a lot harder.
I kind of feel the same. I'm making a conscious effort to concentrate on this season, and let next year wait until March before I start worrying about it. Too many imponderables for next season still.
They are both pretty unique. It's not often you find a guy that is 6'3, runs a 4.38 40, has a 40+ inch vertical, and is very physical. He was the #3 Overall pick, he has crazy talent. Holmes is more clutch though, but Braylon did look pretty good in the AFCCG.. I really want to keep them both.
It's possible that we could keep all 4 of those guys. The cap number is unknown at this point. One good thing we can pretty much bet on is that there will be a rookie salary cap, so there will be more money available for proven players. If they go through with the 18 game schedule, that's more cap money too. I just think it's kind of pointless to debate who we will or won't keep when the parameters are unknown.
Great thread. Let me throw another name into the mix: Brad Smith. The guy is averaging 7 YPC, is a great returner, great tackler on ST, an adequate 4th reciever and is just clutch. The guy constantly makes game changing big plays and of course he is a unique threat out of the WC. We need him back.
