I liked watching the Patriots eek out a win against the Browns last week. The Saints the week before too.
does make sense, the issue is how soft the past 2 jet wins have been. If they destroy the Texans then put them on top
Tonight on the NFL Network, when discussing the best team in the AFC, Mike Lombardi offered this reason why he was picking the Pats over the Jets: "They're getting better as the season goes on. It's all about peaking at the right time." Hold on a second. Didn't this team get demolished just over 8 days ago? Peaking at the right time? Are we that much of a kneejerk NFL society? If we are, doesn't that make the Cowboys possible Super Bowl contenders?
I love how Schefter had the Giants as #2 on his power rankings with "The best team in NY right now" Bet you hes gonna shut his mouth for a while
Lombardi, I've learned, is horrible at this whole "expert" thing. He picked the Fins to win the division because of "execution." He's just consistently wrong. That's all he is - wrong all the time. He filled in on NFL Network's playbook this week. That's my favorite show. He made it a bad episode. Its the NFL, there are no bad episodes. He made Playbook shitty. You have to have full intent to make a bad Playbook episode. Fuckin Lombardi.
Lombardi is a pure jackass. i was thinking that about 20 minutes ago when i saw him talking about who's gonna win the AFC west...... that guy sucks at life
Pats will get the # 1 spot, Jets 2, Falcons 3 It means nothing, but it IS fun to see your team ranked # 1 Can't wait for the Pats/Jets rematch. The Pats are GREATLY improved (though with all the rookies, mistakes are sometimes made) I think Moss actually held the Pats back this year. Now the Pats are going back to dink & dunk, favorite receiver is the open receiver. Throw the ball all over the field, keep moving the chains, own the time of possession. The Browns/Pats game was a fluke. A few bad breaks for the Pats due mostly to rookie mistakes by Gronkowski, who redeemed himself with 3 TD's vs Steelers the very next week Plus Mangini had 2 weeks to prepare with the bye and his team riding an emotional high after beating the Saints. They played the game of their lives against the Pats. Then they got cocky against the Jets by trying an onside kick after their first drive, also by their guy foolishly NOT stepping out of bounds in OT even though he had them in FG range, and finally by trying a long pass on 1st down, backed up deep on the last possession of OT, stopping the clock and giving the ball to the Jets with ridiculously fantastic field position and just enough time to score (The TD was great, but the FG was there even if that play never happened) They didn't make any stupid mistakes like that when they played the Pats PS. Pats could run the table the rest of the way, which would give them the division, prob a 1st round bye AND home field throughout. Or the total opposite could happen if the Jets win out. Just HOW important is that Mon night game in 3 weeks..... Wow
For those of you who don't know.... In the world of ESPN, Sports Center, NBC, CBS, and FOX Power Rankings=Popularity Contest Exhibit A-Pittsburg Steelers Exhibit B-Tom Brady's hair Exhibit C-Uncalled Pass Interference on #84 Offense ect ect ect Roddy White And last but not least... The one that rules them all: Exhibit D- Power Rankings don't mean SHIT in the playoffs... You can be below the top five of a power rankings at 9-7 or 8-8... and it wouldn't matter if you were the Super Bowl Champions.
Yeah I still don't know why this matters so much. I don't need approval from paid prognosticators. I know how good my team is.
If Lombardi was actually good at assessing the team's strength, do you HONESTLY think he will be working for NFL network, instead of some 'real' NFL franchises? I didn't think so either.
Beyond power rankings here, what are you taking about? The Browns D did exactly what we did vs the Pats, coincidence?? I think not. The Patriots defense is a joke, pressure Brady and cover his safety blankets. We saw the Browns offense, they put up over 30 points on them, I don't get how anyone could think the Pats are a real contender. It's apparent when you stick to the run it's game over. It's no coincidence that the Browns are the only other team to beat the Pats, Rex and Co. have their number this year. I'm fully confident we'll beat them handily on our Monday nighter.
http://fanrankings.nfl.com/results/experts NFL Results are in. We are still top of Theismann's list. Still no love from Carucci or (surprisingly) Kirwan.
even though I hate rankings, Gil Brandt is still an oracle compared to the other people on that page.
Personally, I feel much better when the Jets are "overlooked and disrespected", somehow it seems right. I don't give a flying freak where we stand in the power ranks as long as we keep winning. If we win ugly, pretty, lucky, overwhelmingly, by a hair, whatever, "Just win baby" .. Like Rex said in his presser yesterday, it all about winning and that is the "BOTTOM LINE"!!!!!!!
