No but I was scheduled to be on ESPN's 2 minute drill but taping was supposed tot ake place in mid september 2001, it got postponed for obvious reasons and they never brought the show back. Does it really insult you? The guy took a shot at me b/c I was 6-7 years old at that time thinking I had no clue what I was watching. I did have a clue and I have watched the game in recent years and I know the situation surrounding the game. We lost b/c Miami played better not b/c of some weak excuse about the tarp.
Well if you are so good as you contend with "useless" facts you should go for the big one. Shucks who knows you may be right & wind up winning tons & tons of money :jets:
Junc, I think it's clear. You think that as the home team, it's acceptable to leave a field uncovered in a monsoon and render it in horrible condition if it will give your team an advantage. Most reasonable people would disagree. I'm sure you'd concede that Shula and the Fins organization did this intentionally, because we both know with the SB on the line, NFL organizations do not leave field conditions to chance. The Fins organization thought it provided an advantage to leave the field uncovered. Shula knew it would hurt the Jets more than it would hurt his team, and clearly understood that bad weather equalizes talent, and so conceded that the Jets on paper had better talent. I know you say that this is an acceptable practice, but you're wrong. It's cheating to let a field be flooded to give your team an advantage, and I believe that 80% of fair minded NFL fans would agree with that statement.
You are very touchy over this, do you want to challenge me? feel free. There's no reason to feel insulted over this.
The best teams find a way to win no matter what the circumstances. We clearly were not the best team, it was proven throughout the reg and postseason unfortunately. I loved that team and I was excited as could be to see them get to the SB, I whined about the tarp as a kid too but as you grow up you realize we didn't lose b/c of the lack of a tarp covering the field. We lost b/c the better team won as hard as that is for us to acknowledge. Miami found a way, we did not.
Yea, the supposed "water main break" is always overlooked - and the story is that Shula simply had the sprinklers turned on, and the main break was a cover story. Of course, its all history and academic, but the valid question is is it cheating to intentionally alter playing conditions to give yourself an advantage that you would not normally have?
They will never air any all AFL game that is why they have never aired the NYJs/Oak PO game in Dec 68 :jets:
The 1983 game was well after the merger, both were in the NFL by then. You're right though, for some reason they never air actual AFL stuff. Maybe NFL Network doesn't have it? Or NFL Films? Who would have it?
I wasn't alive when Joe was playing so I don't remember Joe playing but thanks for your input! if a QB doesn't put up #s and doesn't win how is he is great? I think any team, coach, etc... will try to find an edge. is it cheating? I don't know, maybe but it's something every team would try if they could. Again, Pitt whined when we didn't cover the field the morning of our 2003 game when we had the snowstorm. Both teams played on the same field and we won. That's how I feel about 1982. If we were mentally tough enough to overcome it we would have won the game.
I've hated the Dolphins, and especially Don Shula, ever since that game. I was 16 at the time. As mentioned earlier, the Jets strength was their fast offense and the Dolphins strength was a tough D. They definitely did it on purpose - it was mentioned before the game even started. Shula was probably bitter about losing Superbowl III to the Jets, so he felt the need to cheat. I don't know if he actually broke the rules, but he's a cheater in my book.
I don't want to challenge you. Nor am I doubting your memory capacity. I just want you to realize that you could have made a substantial statement about your own memory capacity without insulting 99% of the people who post here.
thanks for posting this.........junc, i don't care how great you feel your memory is (self praise is no praise ya know)........any one that was 23 when this game occured immediately has more credibility in recounting the circumstances than someone who watched it live when they were 7..... I don't care how many times in your (obviously very free to do useless things) life you have re watched this game on tape or done some historical analysis. sorry, but your condescending attitude, and refusal to admit over and over again when you get owned (which is more often than you'll ever admit...or maybe you just can't see it)...is a little annoying to say the least.
Coincidentally I came across this website today: http://edtseng.com/individual-and-team-mental-toughness-training/how-to-think-like-a-champion This is my exact point. regardless of the circumstances we had a chance to win the game and we didn't, we chose to whine about something we couldn't control and many people on thos thread are still whining about it almost 30 years later.
