Klecko had major knee surgery that season. Came back for the playoffs and wasn't the same.

I have a video (VHS) from the season: New York Jets "The Road Warriors" "NFL '82" that I just dug up. Not sure if you can get it online....I did a quick amazon search and found nothing for this video. IT is only highlights of the Jets season though.

I sure was. That game broke my heart. I was young and my Dad was broken up over it. It was the Jets best chance at a SB since III. Still, they beat us 3 times that year.

i watched the game as a teenage football fan of the only team in america (the JETS). i have seen a bunch of posts that i agree and disagree with. the field was a major factor in the tempo of the game which heavily favored the dolphins. the jets had one of the best passing games during the year and had peaked during the cinncinati blowout (at cinncinati), and then won 17-14 at the raiders, who may have been the best afc team, especially on defense. schulawithout a doubt wanted to slow the faster jets down and obviously allowed the field to be soaked. the field didnt beat us, but it sure as hell hamstrung our offense in a major way, which explains us being shutout. i am lucky enough to have the sports illustrated from the week after the game and it mentioned the "schula plan" of field conditions to slow down our peaking offense. mcneil was a slasher and cutback runner no doubt (he is my all time favorite jet running back) but the conditions were aimed at our passing game rather than his running style. klecko played in the game so there is no loss of players as an excuse for defeat. for those who say he didnt, the magazine clearly shows him in the game and if i remember correctly he played most, if not all of it. his uniform was extremely muddy so i doubt he got that way sitting on the bench, but with the field conditions in mind i guess it could be a possibility to get that muddy as a spectator! what ended up being the demise of the jets that day was richard todd's 5 interception day above all other negative things. there isnt a game that comes to mind, in all my years being a jets fan (since 1979) that hurt as bad as the infamous "mud bowl"

I was in college....remember Marvin Powell telling Jets fans after the game that they would be back.

    They never did.

What killed the Jets was Joe Walton's playcalling that day, the same Joe Walton who was supported by most Jets fans when the Jets stupidly canned Walt Michaels.

    Another Leon Hess boner.

I really know that Joe namath was overrated and anyone who didn't wear Namath underoos or want to kiss him like Suzy kolber understands that.

I have seen the game as an adult, I have better memory than 99% of the people on this board. As a kid I also whined and cried like a baby that we got screwed but as you grow up you learn things.

Please wipe the tears off your keyboard, the point about the 2 reg season losses was that they beat us on DRY fields so to use the field as an excuse is loser talk. Miami was the better team in the reg season and the better team in the playoffs, sorry if after almost 30 years you still cannot accept this.

The Jets were hot coming into the game riding that amazing 2 game win streak but Miami was not hot having won FIVE in a row?

Leahy stunk(another fact I leanred as I grew up and began to truly understand the game), he missed the kicks. That's life, Mimai beat us and earned the W's.

The Jets weren't robbed of anything, we had a HC that was paranoid and too concerend about a perceived advantage for Miami that he gave the team a built in excuse. We had the same exact opportunity as Miami, we blew it. Miami played better than us. The only whine that I consider legit was the fumble that they gave back to Miami. The rest is sore loser talk, just excuses b/c our team got beat.

If that is the case how did NE get away w/ not covering the field before a playoff game against Indy in '03 or '04?

How did that cost Walt Michaels his job? He just led us further than we had been in 13 years, he lost his job b/c of other factors unrealted to football.

Miami just beat high flying SD by 21 pts the week before. It's great to have excuses but the nonsense being spewed about how Miami couldn't play w/ us on a dry field b/c we were a speed team is comical.

junc...not to bust your balls but I have two questions..will read your response later.

You state you have a better memory than 99% of the board...how did you come up with that number (who has a better memory than you to keep that number under 100 %?).

If it wasnt an advantage...are you claiming Shula did nothing wrong? Why did he do it.

I'm being kind saying 99%, I have a pretty good memory.

I hated Shula and I always thought he got away w/ nonsese b/c he was the head of the competition committee BUT they had homefield, he made a decision that could help his team. i give him credit for that, they lost only 2 times all reg season and one was when a snowplow was brought on the field to kick a GW FG. That was much more outrageous than not putting a tarp on the field. Again, our field against buffalo the year before in the playoffs was as beat up and Miami swept us on dry fields. They proved it through the '82 season that they were better than us. Could we have beaten them on a dry field? Absolutely but we also could have beaten them on that muddy field and we didn't. The better team won unfortunately- the team that had a better record in the reg season and the team that beat us THREE times. I just don't get how we can whine about the tarp 30 years later.

As I remember it supposedly it was to be clear overnight the nite before the game so the field was left uncovered. The weather changed suddenly late at nite bringing in heavy tropical thunder showers & since it was so late at nite they could not call in a crew to tarp the stadium. That game is the reason that the NFL adopted a rule that all fields must be covered immediately after a game is played :jets:

Do you have any idea how condescending and insulting that statement is? Why would you say something like that when it adds absolutely nothing to your argument?

You can take it anyway you want, I think I have proven my memory over the years. That doesn't make me the most intelligent person on the board, I have not put anyone down by saying they are less intelligent. I just happen to have a great memory for mostly useless knowledge and the one place that knowledge becomes useful is on a board like this.

Then why no just say "I have a great memory". Why disparage everyone else on this board?
