I agree. One out pattern to Cotchery, Keller was about 5 yds away....running an out pattern as well. I was like "wtf"???
Keller needs to get downfield more beyond slow linebacker coverage. Bring the quicker guys underneath on yes....slant routes. It's so easy. This offense would hum if it wasn't so cutsey.
Says who? It amazes me that you can think that it's that easy and the only people in the world who can't see that are running the Jets. Ever consider the possibility that it isn't nearly as easy as you think it is?
What kills me is when you have 2nd and 1 in the redzone and bring in Brad Smith to pick up the 1st. If you're a GROUND AND POUND team then the 1st should be a given... You don't need to play this crap and waste an OPPORTUNITY.... That right there is like back when you were a kid playing Knock Out and the game was screaming at you "Body Blow Blody Blow...KNOCK EM OUT!!!!!!!!" and Schotty does what???? He back up into his own corner and cowers. On 2nd and 1 you let your young QB get experience taking a shot at the endzone. That's a real F'n kick in the pants and loss for Sanchez right there to make a play like any other normally coached QB in the NFL. THERE IS NO DEFENDING THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Throw that ball up to Braylon... Even an INT right there is harmless... Heck, they only settled for a FG anyway.
My vast Madden football experience has taught me that slants are very dangerous. You have to throw the ball very quickly with not much time to think. You have to know the coverage or a linebacker will step into your passing lane and pic you. Maybe shotty feels they are not good passes for new QB's.
Actually it's a high percentage throw that a young qb should make. Schotty better listen to the SB MVP. He knows better
1. Slants are usually quick pass patterns. Usually 3 step drops. 2. As such, when the defense is playing tight, physically, then slant is a very poor pattern to run. 3. As Santonio has pointed out, Cleveland secondary was, for the most part, playing very soft coverage. Other than the two consecutive pass plays where Sanchez tested the way of Joe Haden, the coverage was very soft. 4. As for Keller not getting involved as much: frankly I have no clue as to what the real problem is here. I would like to think that, shifting WRs to the opposite side of Keller will mean safeties will be rolling the other way, no? This would be one simple way to force unwanted match up. If the safeties are not rolling, then Jets will have one more head downfield on the side where WR shifted, no?
Because? Dom Caper's defense is a blitzing team. Zone-blitzing, to be specific. What do the blitzing defenses have in common? Yes. Physical cornerbacks that WILL bump you at the line of scrimmage. That's exactly the kind of situation where you want to AVOID throwing 3 step slant patterns. If Schotty called slant all day that day, then he better start packing his bag - I mean, if he cannot figure out what a football layman like I can figure out, then he doesn't deserve to be there.
Right, but the point I was making is that Sanchez was on the money, but the WRs dropped them. Today was the perfect day to do it if the DBs were playing soft. That's when a slant for 4 yards can be broken for 12+. Especially with the Jets receivers. One slant, one TD. My favorite route is the slant route.
This goes to all the Jack Wagons who were bashing me in the game threads for pointing out the JETS over use of the slant along w/ the out route and stop route. This was exactly my point! When you run the same 3 routes all game it's a no brainer that the defenses will know your offense. When you run them less frequently, this is the result! It's about being non-predictable....
After week 1 we all wanted to see more simple routes like the slant. And in week two and three Shotty obliged. From then on, he's been decreasing slant routes and now it looks like he's not even using them.
Cleveland did an excellent job when it came to jamming Keller @ the LOS and getting him out of the game for the most part, he is Sanchez's safety blanket, I'm sure teams are gearing to stop him first and foremost to stall drives
