if divisions offer no purpose such as a winner that makes the playoffs, they are unnecessary. and if playoffs should be simply about records only, no need for conferences either because sometimes teams in the AFC miss the playoffs with records better than NFC playoff teams. if divisions shouldn't dictate the playoffs, conferences shouldn't either by your same logic -- only record should matter, not how the teams are divided.

so the only logical repercussion of your assertion is to have no divisions or conferences at all because they serve no purpose. just have the NFL as one big league, let all the teams play one another and the top 12 teams make the playoffs. bracket them off by placement and let them play down to the last two. that game will be the Super Bowl. no need for AFC or NFC championships because having an NFC and AFC aren't necessary since records alone would dictate playoff entrance. with that, you could end up with 8 AFC teams and only 4 NFC teams if you kept the conference structure intact but tried to implement your best record only concept. is that your perfect vision of how the league should be set up?

if your answer is no, than obviously you don't grasp the repercussion of your own argument.

See Yisman's post. We're talking about two different things. I am complaining about division winners automatically getting home playoff games in the wild card round. I do also think it's weak that division winners make the playoffs automatically now that you mention it, but you went off on a completely different tangent.

The only person talking about a best record only concept is you.

But since you bring it up, then let me logically reply to the ramification of your implied assertion: why not keep the divisions/conferences for organization's sake and rivalries and then make it the top 8 per conference that make the playoffs, top 4 get home field in their first game, top 2 miss the first round?

I'm not saying that I totally agree, but I don't see what makes it so outlandish.

To reiterate, my only point in this whole thing was that division winners shouldn't be guaranteed a home game. Although, for humour's sake, I would like to see the 7-9, 8-8 Rams or Niners host the 10-6 or 11-5 Eagles.

Yeah, now that I saw that this morning it is pretty iffy...however they should be more upset about the Sugg's face mask. There should have been an offsetting face mask on Snelling. That was blatantly obvious.

Why would the parent of the NFL network (The NFL) want to help viewers think less of its employees?

Interesting how a better angle didn't show up. Nothing to see here folks! Move on! Tune in on Tuesday when the VP of Officiating will tell you that the refs made "the right interpretation of the rule."

This about sums it up. There is no perfect system and the balance of strength in the league is always changing. No matter what you do something will happen to expose a flaw. What we have now is as balanced in terms of scheduling and playoffs as the NFL has ever been.

Their broadcast quality seems more like a pre-season telecast than a prime time, late season game, you can't hear crowd noise or anything.

I don't think his body can handle it anymore. Just look at how much he's been hurt this year. For once, I think Favre may be legitimately done. Plus, after all of this Jen Sterger crap, I think it gives even more of a reason. I'm sure his wife wants him home in Mississippi where it isn't so easy for him to fuck around.

I think Kubiak sucks. He has never impressed me as a head coach.

You always have to be wary of guys who give their kids weird names. It is just like being wary of men who wear jackets in 90+ degree weather. Kubiak's kids are named Klint, Klay, and Klein.

Collins appears to be hurt as well.

So both teams have a new QB starting, and both get hurt.

If the Lions don't turn it around quickly, they will lose their 25th consecutive road game. This would break the record of 24 which was set by the 2001-03 Lions.

Minny down by two scores, looks like Chilly's this close to being executed by Ziggy Wilf again.

lol Favre throws it right to Lance Briggs with eight minutes left...back up the truck!
