An I the only one not bothered by this? I've seen Bart Scott on a lot of plays this season where he hasn't had his chin strap buckled. It's just stupid, not to mention unsafe and uncomfortable.

it's bullshit, but who gives a fuck. Bart Scott probably found out, and burned 25k with Woody Johnson after practice.

if anything Bart will probably be pissed off, and try to take somebodys chinstrap off sunday.

Doesn't Bart like to refer to physical games as "double-chinstrap games"?

I guess the Lions are so soft it's a "no-chinstrap" game.

  7. Half the league is guilty of this offense. Why would Scott be targeted like this, other than a desire by Goodell to try to perpetuate the notion of the Jets being bad boys?

Gunther Cunningham: "For him to call us dirty really ticks me off. We play tough and we play hard and we're going to continue to do that. Maybe if, what's his name -- Mr. Scott -- maybe he will read this if you write it. I am livid. There's no place for a player to make comments like that, or for a coach, either, and I'm not taking it, not from him. I've been around the horn too many times. I don't coach dirty football and I never have."

So basically, Gunther went through the tape - found something illegal and submitted it to the league. He doesn't coach dirty football. He plays by pussy rules.

  9. And gets fired from head coaching positions.

i don't get the reactions here. every player on every team gets hit with some uniform infraction after each game. this is what happens. its just never reported on, bc its typically bullshit noone cares about, including the person being fined. this kinda falls under the not really anything to see here category, if it weren't for the monetary value of hte fine itself. which, as mentioned already, probably has more to do with bart's press conference than being a repeat offender, which hte league will fine more for.

My biggest issue with this is not the fine, but the amount of the fine.

Julian Peterson levels LT out of bounds and gets fined $7,500.

Bart leaves his chinstrap unbuckled and gets fined $10,000. Where the fuck is the logic here?! GTFO Goodell!!!

10K is too much for a chin strap, looks like the league is desperate for cash

Really man? With all the hoopla around players getting concussions you want to leave it to personal responsibility? The league just instituted a rule this year that if the ball carriers helmet comes off the play is dead ... under your logic shouldn't the player be able to continue to run down the field because it's his choice to continue without a helmet?

It's not like players leave it unbuckled to gain an advantage or for any important reason, its because it looks cool which is stupid reason to avoid safety. Blame Deon Sanders for really highlighting this trend in the early to mid nineties. I am not trying to baby-down football, in fact the quite the opposite; you can have huge hits as long as people are wearing helmets properly.

This goes beyond chin straps. Notice how all many players can take off their helmets like its a hat? That means it fits incorrectly. Any body who played even pee wee football knows that helmets are supposed to be much tighter then that.

I think that if someones helmet comes off during a play, and it is not as the result of a foul, it should be a penalty. With such emphasis on limiting hits we should focus less on calling lame penalties on players making hits and more on idiots who are trying to look cool at the expense of safety.

    /End Rant

Isnt the new rule this year that if a players helmet comes off during a play the play is blown dead? I think they redo it. That is probably why he was fined 10k, because if his helmet somehow came off it could potentially ruin an otherwise productive play for either units. Could see some cheap teams using "my helmet came off" to their advantage as well. So theres gotta be a fine.

    No.

The rule is that if an offensive player's helmet comes off the play is blown dead.

That does not mean a "do-over" that means the play is dead at that instant.

You have to have the ball in your possession, a runner, and have your helmet come off for the play to be blown dead.
