I believe that Mangini was timid when the last few games were on the line. You can't afford to be timid in the NFL.
OK... both of your first 2 comments have nothing to do with Mangini whatsoever. Those are all Tannenbaum. Mangini had no control over player personnel. Tannenbaum is the one who made all the great moves which put this team in the running for the AFC East title. Mangini didn't give us an O-Line or Kris Jenkins, Tannenbaum did. I'm not saying that Tanny is doing a perfect job, but just that what you said had nothing to do with Mangini. As far as the second part that I quoted, it was Mangini's job to make sure that these things happen the way they are supposed to. He's supposed to yell at Favre for throwing dumb picks, no matter who he is. I know Cowher wouldn't hesitate to tear Favre a new asshole. It was Mangini's job to make sure that Sutton is creating defenses which bring pressure on the QB. It was Mangini's job to make sure that Jenkins stayed fresh and in shape all season. All of these things that made the Jets "predictable", they were all part of Mangini's job. That is why he was fired. He couldn't do his job.
bellicrap and mangini are two different situations...the jets didnt fire belicrap he resigned....mangini was fired.... also.... bellicrap is a great coach... mangini is not....
because if nobody else recalls the fans were screaming for manginis head...SCREAMING FOR HIS HEAD...then hes fired and everyone complains....what the hell is going on.... they fired him for all the reasons EVERYONE WAS SAYING WE NEEDED TO FIRE HIM FOR....no adjustments, lack of fire, stood there like a log, didnt use his personell properly....no blitzing.... etc etc etc what difference does it make? he was to be fired anyway.... they might as well have fired him and silenced the fan base for a while...
The possability exists that Mangini will become a very successful NFL HC and the Jets will be better off moving on if we get a very good HC? Mangini has a better chance to be a Parcells/BB desciple out of a division with both Parcells and BB and we may well do better going up against both of them twice a year with a different look on both sides of the ball? We need to establish our young QB who we are going to build around and keep adding talent and we need direction and execution. It's really not rocket science a great football mind with great leadership qualities are out there. We just have to find it. Unfortunately looking at the HC vacancies, both Denver and Cleveland have better QB situations and because of that are likely to be more attractive jobs. That said it doesn't mean that the most obvious choices will be the best choices. Whoever we get I will reserve judgement even if it is Shotty Jr. who I have not been thrilled with as an OC but may surprise as a HC?
Well said. Mangini's gone. He was a good coach who fell short of expectations with alot of time and money spent. New Guy just has to add more talent on top of what Mangini's given him. I hope New Guy is good.
He's turning around the Browns, we know Mangini is a good X and Os guy, he's learning the other aspects and that could be dangerous down the road.
He's won 8 games in a year and a half with the Browns, and he won't be around to see Holmgren's turnaround of that franchise completed.
Holmgren has a lot to do with the turnaround in Cleveland. With Mangini having little control, it actually makes Mangini a better coach.
You know this how? Mangini is building up Cleveland from the OL out, just like he did here. He's got an eye for talent. It's typical that Holmgren will get all the credit once the Browns turn the corner like Parcells got all the credit for turning around the Fins, but I'm willing to bet most of the personnel input comes from Mangini still.
There have been some great bumps of old threads this week. Still hoping that Ohio Pork will reappear.
You mean David Bowens, Chansi Stuckey, Eric Barton, Jason Trusnik, Abram Elam, and Hank Poteat? That Mangini sure can find a diamond in the rough!
I was referring to his drafts of the past, but those guys you mentioned are all contributing this season, so thanks for reiterating my point. The only beef I have with EM is that he didn't take Drew Coleman with him to Cleveland.
