Agree 100% on that but I would still like to see him on the team for a year. To me he seems like a guy that would have influence in the locker room like Cliff Floyd. Not the best, flashiest, but he gets respect and attention and isn't afraid to grab the bull...
Between shows on ESPN that had a SC news break and they were saying that Bobby Valentine is the favorite for the Brewers job.
I think the glue that kept the locker room together and the team chemistry so good in 06 was Floyd, and in 05 a combo of him and Cammy.
Mets keep loading up the front office - Paul DePodesta the new VP Player Development and Amateur Scouting
Loading the FO? These A's nerds have not had that much success. No more then Omar. Its good that Sandy is bringing in his guys and he should, but I am not excited by it.
i am saving my excitement for the players we bring in and the direction we take. i dont see 2011 as a throw away game. i think we can compete.and i expect us to compete
I wouldn't bash them too much. They did a lot in Oakland, between drafting and trades, they certainly did what they could with the finances that were available. I'm not excited, because simply, I'm so jaded and worn down by the last couple of years. I've had enough. For all the crappy teams I root for, the last couple of years with this franchise have been the worst. Worse than the Kotite years, worse than the Coslet years, worse than the Jeff Torborg/Art Howe years. Worse than the Pitt. strip club incident with St. John's in '04. Show me something. Every fan of this organization deserves that.
Just rebuild the team. This is not a one year fix. They need to start over. We should see a real playoff team in about 3 - 4 years and I'm fine with it.
i dont want to wait 3-4 years. i think we can win now. look at the giants.... we need to sign bullpen and starters. our lineup will be full squad from the get go 1.reyes 2.pagan 3.wright 4.beltran 5.bay 6.davis 7.thole 8.tejada
The Giants had 4 out of 5 starters come from their own farm system. They had some homegrown talent in the pen(Brian Wilson & Sergio Romo), but mostly journeymen.
target free agents on my list (not necessarily signed but looked into) SP aaron harang javy vazquez chris young ben sheets brandon webb rp guerrier crain uehara balfour rauch feliciano we need lefty RP for the phillies..
I'm sick of being "almost" good enough. I'm sick of adding pricey FAs with the win now goal in mind. I want a team that is a perennial playoff team. I have had it with the Mets and all I want is for the Wilpons to do it right once and for all.
Have fun with that guy, classic Moneyball nerd, killed the Dodgers after they had put together a decent team which won the NL West in 2004. My favorite acquisition was Hee Seop Choi (aka Hee Miss Ball). Got rid of Paul LoDuca, Guillermo Mota, Shawn Green and Adrian Beltre among others because they didn't fit the "philosophy". Jackass.
