Once in a while I feel like a tough, comeback win on the road can really provide a spark for a team. At the time, I felt like the Denver game was necessary to show that this team can not only win the games it should, but can also overcome a mistake ridden game, and win one in the fourth quarter. Unfortunatly, it seems to have sparked more of a trend of poor play. Despite being 2-1 in the last 3 games, I think we need a nice clean game next week. No more than 1 turnover, limited penalties, limited drops, 50% or better on 3rd downs, and solid D. It's nice to know that we can win close games, and can comeback if necessary, but lets have another game like we played against New England, or Buffalo where we just put it on the opponent and dominate the game. The next 2 weeks, the Browns and Texans are going to try and run on us, and it's not going to work. We need two convincing wins these next two weeks and I think we'll get them. The pats have Pittsburg and Indy, and I look for them to lose at least one of those games. Hopefully we're 8-2 and they are 6-4 after 10 games! Either way, I'm thrilled that we won yesterday-- only team in the AFC East to come out victorious. Nice road win Jets!
if we play penalty free next week, and stop the run game of the browns, we should be just fine. Obviously we cant have the stupid TO's like we have had the last two weeks, and we need to not fumble 5 times, but this game, if we actually play Jets football is a very winnable game. But we have to show up for once.
He has the worst completion % in the league, but I still want to see him taking shots down the field. I've seen a few miscommunications with Sanchez and LT/Holmes where they either aren't looking for the pass or they cut the wrong way. That and the drops lately probably haven't helped his %, but it would still be low either way. I don't want to see a dink and dunk passing game all day. Even with a low comp. %, I'm happy he's been taking the shots down the field without all the INTs. Granted he's gotten lucky on a few dropped INTs, but I'm sure every QB has a few of those.
The W's are indeed the only solace I can take from the past few weeks of Jets football. Of the eight games the Jets have played this year I only count 3 where (IMO) the Jets outplayed the opponenent. That would be week one vs. the Ravens, the Pats game and the Bills game.... that's it. So far we have been fortunate. Lost one game we probably deserved to win, and won three we probably deserved to lose. We should be 4-4 right now. So I'm with you. Winning ugly is a beautiful thing...but I'm sensing the Jets aren't scaring anybody. If I were the coaching the oppostion I would show my guys the clips of all those "ugly" Jets wins and tell my players... Don't be afraid of these guys....go out there and kick some ass...they aren't as good as their record. So yeah it's high time the Jets opened up a can of whoop ass on some peeps and put the fear of God in 'em. I just don't think anyone is really afraid of us right now.
I'd like the Jets to put an occasional beatdown on a team instead of this cardiac shit week in and week out. We've been lucky, but really not that good and sometimes luck is all you need. How far we go in January, assuming we make the playoffs, will depend on how quickly Rex can instill some discipline in his staff and his team. Otherwise, this is all a mirage.
We're 6-2 and we deserve to be 6-2. You play 60 minutes, and they all count. It's not like we got lucky in our wins. If anything, I think we have been really screwed by bad calls this year, and really untimely drops. One or two plays go the other way, and we look like a domitant team. Denver game had about 5 of the worst calls I ever saw. Add in an onsides kick, and a 59 yard fieldgoal against us, and that game was all about Denver getting breaks. We play them again and we could beat that by 24 points. Green Bay made the plays, but got two turnovers on what I consider to be bad calls. Those ints were good throws, with bad outcomes. 99 out of 100 times those are first downs for us, rather than turnovers. We play Green Bay again and I think we can win. We might not have dominated many games this year, but we certainly never were dominated. We have a shot against any team in the NFL this year. Everyone has at least 2 losses. Every team has looked bad so far. Our problems are mistakes-- penalties and drops. We are not being outplayed though.
I agree with your overall sentiment of disappointment concerning the way the team has performed, but when your team is not performing well and they still find a way to win games, that's the difference between a contender and a pretender. The Jets are nowhere near hitting on all cylinders and are still at 6-2 and on top of the division. When the Patriots won it all in 2001, many of their regular season and playoff wins were ugly and close. You don't need to dominate in the regular season to win it all. You need to keep yourself in position to keep winning games. The more clutch performances I see out of some of these guys, the more I think they do have what it takes to go all the way.
How did we not outplay Miami? Referring to your other post. We had the lead the entire game except for 18 seconds in the 3rd quarter. After Miami got their first lead of that day, being up 17-14, Sanchez came out and hit Braylon for 67 yard TD, took the lead back and never lost again. Same thing against the Vikings, we lead the entire game not once giving up the lead. We had a tough time getting the ball in the EZ that game, but we still dominated them for most of the game.
You should have included a poll to ask how many people were out on the ledge with 4 minutes left in that game.
we killed ourselves against GB. First against Baltimore, and again yesterday the Zebras were eating us alive.
You don't have that right. In fact it's pretty much backwards. We are generally getting everyone's A game, because they are afraid of us. Teams that aren't wouldn't be getting as chippy as Detroit was yesterday. I thought the Titans had rolled into town.
Understood, however I'd be interested in seeing the quality of opponents in those ugly (Pats) wins you a reffering to. The Lions, Vikes, and Broncos are a combined....what 7-17? On paper at least one would think there should have been a proper beatdown in there. The Pack sits at 6-3 (on paper the only quality opponent we have played in a while) and that one was a loss. So yah....love that our record says we are 6-2, but the quality of the opponents and the closeness of the contests against ostensibly mediocre teams worries me.
If this was the "SOJ" we would have lost all these close games on something stupid. We are winning close games we are learning how to win in these cirumstances.
Agreed. Not only does it help Sanchez get into a rhythm, it opens up the running game as well. You can't have a great rushing attack when teams are stacking the box and you don't make them pay in the air.
I thought we deserved to win both of those games....absolutely. I don't think we dominated in either one of them....but that's fine we did play better football than the other team in those games so point taken. Games like the one yesterday, the 4th down hail mary against Denver and being the first Pro football team (including the lowly Bills) to be shutout in 2010..... Well I just find that worrisome. I'd feel a lot better if they beat teams they are supposed to beat and do it convincingly.... Like another poster stated above I would feel uneasy about making it to the playoffs at say 12-4 with a sketchy resume of barely hanging on to beat mediocre teams, and say a .500 record against teams with a winning record. Of course someone will point out if we win it all then it doesn't matter and of course they would be right.... All I'm saying is that as things stand now....if they don't improve, the Jets might well be the weakest entry to make the Playoffs this year.
