You can't say that a 1-7 team has "not a lot of weaknesses". Tom Landry could zombie up and coach these guys, but with an idiot QB, a horrible OL and a secondary that is bottom 10, he couldn't win more than 6-8 games.
Usually not, but the Cowboys have a pretty stacked roster already. On offense, they don't need a QB, WR or TE. The running game is struggling which is why I said offensive line but their RB stable is pretty talented and I think a lot of their running struggles are due to play calling/mentality. On defense, their front 7 is good and CBs are ok, I guess they could upgrade their safeties. I think that team has basically just stopped responding to that coaching staff. It may just be time to clear house and bring in a completely new staff.
Philip Rivers has been amazing this year. No Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd's been hurt, Naanee's been hurt, Gates is out, Mathews was injured for a little...he's still lighting people up.
Phillips is toast, but i won't say it's all his fault...I wouldn't be surprised to see Jone can a big part of the coaching staff by the end of the season it wouldn't surprise me if the entire coaching staff is gone. We complain about Schotty but Dallas's OC has been just horrible. The Boys have a good receiving corp, but Romo Think's he's Favre in his prime and is overly in love with the pass (I think he audibles out of alot of runs) The running backs are okay but the Offensive line has been atrocious in both pass blocking and run blocking. Their running game only nets them 3.6 yards per carry, Ranking them #28 in the league, They rank 31st in Total yardage (not a surprise when you average 3.6 yards a carry and are pass happy) The D-line Has a load of talent, but honestly I see alot of half running motors, maybe it's coaching maybe it's ego's or the players mentality or a combination of all of the above most likely. The secondary of Dallas, is pretty dismal. Yes Dallas has allowed the 5th lowest yards in passing for the season BUT, and this is a big booty but, they've allowed a 65.7% completion percentage, good for 27th in the league. Dallas allows 8.0 yards per attempt in the air, good for 30th in the league. The Boys also rank 30th in the League in Passing TD's allowed and they're ranked 29th in the league in interceptions. The reason why the yards allowed are so low? Easy, other teams are in the lead and running a ton on the Boys as a result...The Boys have only been passed on a 228 times, third fewest attempts in the NFL. If you look just at yards allowed the Dallas secondary looks good, but you look at the real numbers underneath that total and you see just how Miserable the Dallas Pass defense is. Speaking of running against Dallas, they rank 22nd in yards allowed, 23rd in yards per attempt, 16th in rushing touchdowns allowed. In short, Dallas on defense doesn't do much of anything right. At this point in time with their Defense and their O-Line they are essentially a one diminsional pass happy team that can't run the ball and can't play defense.
Additionally, I just got to say, I'm not and never have been a Dallas fan but I've always respected how well Dallas normally plays year in and year out. But this Dallas team just highlights that you can bring in big name players, but if you ignore the core players noname positions you cannot win in this league. Tom Landry must be rolling in his grave right now....
I'm just saying, if these guys were that good, they'd find ways to score more than they do. Bad coaching is bad. But good players find ways to score, which this team cannot do all that often.
I thought divisional games were supposed to be more interesting than this. Sweet focus on ST for the bungles.
turnover on downs is only if you go for it and don't make it. Punting (even if the punt is blocked) isn't a turnover.
Did Jon Gruden only agree to be an ESPN commentator if he was allowed to hold a football the entire game?
