Cro has been playing really well but we also drafted Wilson (seems a bit of a waste now doesn't it?). What to do... what to do... time will tell I guess.
The 2011 cap is an unknown. However, speaking from a logical perspective ( I know most TGGer's aren't used to that) the cap will most likely go up, and go up in a bigger way, not the normal 7%-9%, but probably more like 10%-13%. The league & owners want to go to 18 games. That means increased roster spots (hopefully more than the projected 3 that was talked about earlier in the year), which in turn increases the salaries teams will pay out. If the league wants to avoid a lockout, as the players do, they will most likely start mediating between the NFLPA & the owners. I realize most of the owners don't give a shit and just want to make more money, so they insulated themselves with the TV money, etc. However, if the players are going to make the concession of an 18 game season, they are going to want more money, and/or increased pension/healthcare for life after football. Jenks will be back next year at a vet minimum plus incentives for playing time. He wants to play, and he's still a top 5 NT in the league when he has 2 good wheels. The rest of the players will, as other have said be back based on a complex formula: (Success of Jets + playing for Rex) - loss of salary to stay with team \ accolades of being in NYmetro * ((salary cap\games played) (bonus + incentives). Or something like that. Basically how much playing for Rex really means.
Compensatory picks for the losses will help build the future. I'm sure Cro and either Braylon or Holmes will stay. I have a feeling it will be Braylon. I think the allure of NYC is a strong pull for him. He's certainly much more respectable to his team mates and coaches since he's been here.
The whole point of the lockout is to reduce player salaries (not reduce the rate of growth of player salaries, actually reduce them). If the owners end up "winning" the dispute the salary cap isn't going up much at all and may drop.
I agree but he makes a good point with the 18 game schedule and extra roster space. Just more variables that make it difficult to figure out what it will be. You also have to consider there will likely be a rookie cap which will leave more money available to the veterans. I think we should wait and see how things play out before making statements one way or another.
Where's the fun in that? I stand with my prediction that the 2011 salary cap is pretty close to the 2009 number and that the Jets are consequently are going to have to make some really hard decisions (like even if we dump Vernon, Woody and Jenkins we'll lose two or three of Harris/Edwards/Holmes/Cromartie).
Harris is practically guaranteed to get re-signed. Cromartie is the wild card because whether or not he's back pretty much depends on what his market is going to be. I can't see us keeping Edwards and Holmes. We've already seen that the offense can function without Holmes and we're a run-heavy offense, anyway. Unless we open up a ton of cap space somewhere, one will be gone. My guess is that whoever steps up in the playoffs gets to come back.
Not being pesimistic but that is if we make the playoffs.If we dont win the division there are no guarantees with the competition the AFC has.
I agree... atm Edwards is far more valuable to this team than Holmes but we'll see. Also Holmes has never had a big payday like Edwards.
I hope so but what if he gets a Dansby like offer from another team? He's a great player; do you match an offer if someone else overpays to add a star with toughness to their roster?
Purely from comparison point, Braylon Edwards as of game 7 last year was better than Santonio Holmes as of game 7 this year. True, Sanchez has more weapon this year, with more experience, but still I do not think Holmes is as good as advertised. If either had to be resigned today, I would go with Edwards. I didn't quite expect such a day would come when I would choose Edwards over a Superbowl MVP...
I'm not a huge fan of Holmes, but Edwards was actually playing football for the first 4 weeks of 2009, Holmes came into the game cold in week 5 this year. I am not sure it's a valid comparison.
One thing is certain. Sanchez isn't at a point in his development where he can utilize all the weapons he's been provided. Someone has to go next season as even our Genius OC can't seem to organize all 4 weapons at his disposal without overcomplicating things and screwing up the flow of the offense.

from 624: Chargers get a 2011 third-round pick that turns to a second-round pick based on Antonio Cromartie's play time and the Jets performance. That's not really specific, I don't know if anything that's been released has been any more specific.
But nothing has. If anything more specific comes out, this place would definitely have it somewhere. These deals never have every clause released. At the end of the year we'll know what Cro is going to be worth. I can see it being a 2nd. This team will be going places.
Rex seemed confident that Cromartie would play this well, he also seemed confident it would be a 3rd (I think)
