From Peter King ---- a notorious PATS/Belichick lover. The only Jet turned out to be Brandon Moore. And I thought David Harris was a quiet warrior --- thank God we were able to get Moore back after we released him for a few days last year. No Mangold? No Cromartie? No Pouha? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ro-team-awards/index.html?xid=cnnbin&hpt=Sbin SI.com's 2010 Midseason All-Pro Team OFFENSE QB Peyton Manning Indianapolis Colts Ho-hum. Throwing to Blair White, Brody Eldridge, Jacob Tamme. Same greatness. RB Arian Foster Houston Texans He's hit a lull recently, but early explosion keyed strong start for the Texans. WR Brandon Lloyd Denver Broncos Talk about your classic deep threat: He's averaging 20.3 yards per catch. WR Roddy White Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan can't live without him. He throws at White 12 times a game. WR Davone Bess Miami Dolphins (Picked 3rd WR over FB.) Has hands and explosion and elusiveness. What else is there? TE Antonio Gates San Diego Chargers No player at any position is as superior to his peers as Gates is at tight end. T Jake Long Miami Dolphins Head coach Tony Sparano: "I thank God ... I have Jake Long at left tackle.'' G Brandon Moore New York Jets He's a strong drive blocker in the running game and never errs mentally. C Alex Mack Cleveland Browns Some thought the 21st pick was too high for Mack in 2009. Now, he's a franchise player. G Ryan Lilja Kansas City Chiefs Shored up Kansas City line; now Chiefs lead NFL in rushing. T Marshall Yanda Baltimore Ravens Opening-day shift from right guard to right tackle has been a Ravens godsend. DEFENSE DE Vince Wilfork New England Patriots The seven-year veteran plays inside and out the same way: with dominance. DT Haloti Ngata Baltimore Ravens Opponents consistently are using two players to block this incredibly strong rusher. DT Jason Jones Tennessee Titans His two crushing sacks of Tony Romo helped key the Titans' win at Dallas. DE Trent Cole Philadelphia Eagles Credit Cole not just for the sacks (6.0), but also for the 24 QB pressures in 7 games. LB Cameron Wake Miami Dolphins Ex-CFLer is the surprise of the year. Dolphins pass-rush doesn't miss Jason Taylor. LB Clay Matthews Green Bay Packers Not even a strained hamstring has slowed the Packers sack machine. LB Lawrence Timmons Pittsburgh Steelers Tough call over Ray Lewis, but Timmons' two 15-tackle games stand out. CB Brandon Flowers Kansas City Chiefs This emerging secondary star plays well bumping and in tight coverage. FS Earl Thomas Seattle Seahawks The rookie's been victimized a few times, but four picks in four-game span too. SS LaRon Landry Washington Redskins Four interceptions, four sacks, five forced fumbles, 28 deflections. Not bad. CB Nnamdi Asomugha Oakland Raiders Old man river. Teams rarely throw at him because they know what will happen. Midseason Awards QB Tom Brady MVP New guys are everywhere on offense, yet still the same Brady production. WR Roddy White Off. Player of the Year Average game for the Falcons star receiver: nine catches, 107 yards. DT Haloti Ngata Def. Player of the Year Space-eater. Watch the games because his dominance doesn't show in stats. C Maurkice Pouncey Off. Rookie of the Year Playing like a veteran and solidified the shaky Steelers offensive line from day one. DT Ndamukong Suh Def. Rookie of the Year Detroit's mammoth No. 2 overall pick has 6.5 sacks -- and it takes two players to block him. LB E.J. Henderson Comeback Player The Vikings veteran linebacker had a horrible broken leg just 10 months ago. Bill Belichick Coach of the Year Belichick has incorporated new players all over the offense and defense -- and is winning. Perry Fewell Coordinator of the Year Giants pass-rush looks like Super Bowl run of '07 again, thanks to its new coordinator. Randy Fichtner Assistant of the Year The Steelers quarterbacks coach helped pilot Pittsburgh through Big Ben-less stretch. Scott Pioli Executive of the Year Ex-Patriot's second draft in K.C. helped Chiefs to surprising 2-game AFC West lead.
I think he might have only been choosing among #3/slot WRs for the Bess spot, that's the only explanation.
It's very hard to rate the OL... but except for Long and Moore those selections make no sense. Bess is puzzling to me too... Also how can Manning be the all-pro QB and Brady the MVP?
If anyone deserves the MVP award it's Manning, this could be one of the worst lists I've ever read ... lol Bess
I'm puzzled by both Brady and Bellichek getting so much credit for incorporating some new players, I can see giving both credit but coach of the year and mvp with the same explanation seems a bit too Peter-King-blowing-new-england to me
What are you puzzled about? Peter King is the biggest Pats homer there is outside of Bill Simmons. How people like them continue to be employed for their opinions is beyond me.
No Osi, Willis, Mangold or Cro? This is hilarious. Cro is, stat wise, the best CB in the league btw. What a retard.
Yes, the poor guy has to perform w/ such schlubs as Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon. Brady is doing more w/ alot less than manning. We all hate the pats but let's tip our caps. What is outrageous on that list w/ a Pats bias?
It bothers me to say such nice things about him but he deserves it. He's amazing, any average QB and that team would be lucky to have 3 wins right now. he's taken a band of misfits and led them to the best record in the league so far.
Brady is doing more? So Manning doesn't have more yards, more touchdowns and less interceptions? And then how about the injuries around Manning on that offense Garson missed a few games, Gonzalez has missed a bunch, Collie has missed a few and is still out, Addai Brown and Hart are all hurt at rb, and Clark is out for the year
Is the object to win fantasy leagues or win real games? Even w/ guys out he still has more talent around him than Brady does and Brady has his team w/ the best record in the game. Brady has a couple of nice TE prospects and what else? We are seeing the real welker w/o Moss, he's got garbage at RB, his best OL hasn't played a down and yet he has these misifts w/ the best record in the league. I love the pity party for manning b/c he has a few injuries to deal w/. He STILL has Wayne, Garcon, Gonzalaez and Collie will be back. He has only played one game w/o Clark so far and people are acting like he is guiding the '76 Bucs. Even w/ the injuries he has more talent around him than Brady.
I read this and laughed....how is Osi Umenyiora not on this list or Hakeem Nicks for that matter? As for the Jets?Cromartie is a no brainer as well as David Harris. Mangold has been his usual stellar self as well. Peter King falls in love with players and teams and apparently the NY ones he covered for some many years are not 2 of them. I say F him anyway, who the hell wants a midseason jinx award from the all time jinx rag of our time? It will be interesting to see of this list how many end up on season ending IR.
Peter King is an idiot. His tangential writing style allows us to see how his thought process works and it's just pitiful. The guy has pretty much no knowledge of football and is completely oblivious to the fact that he's functionally retarded (minus the functional part).
