All you need to know about Gus and his Knicks tenure, besides the ridiculous screaming about a horrific team, was that he was boys with Isiah and still has his back when it comes to defending him.

Sticking up for Isiah Thomas the way that Gus did/does is akin to being a Scientologist. You never look at the person with quite the same respect ever again.

You have to be kidding me! I can't believe people don't like gus. So many announcers don't get remotely excited and make the game boring. I'll watch any Gus game, he makes it way more exciting.

How is he overrated? He's like the number 3 or 4 guy on that network. Everyone above him is overrated. You Gus haters must love Dierdorf and Fouts and the other clowns.

Gus is annoying, actually EXTREMELY annoying, when he's not calling a big and/or important event.

For people who live in the tri-state area, Gus was the voice of the Knicks on MSG for years. It's one thing to have him calling March Maddness and screaming about Cindarellas and buzzer beaters.

It another thing entirely to listen to him call 50, 60, 70 Knicks games, screaming things every game like "Nazzy Muhommed rebounds...pump fakes...goes up...PUTS IN THE LAYUP, AND IS FOULED!! KNICKS WITH A CHANCE TO CUT THE MILWAUKEE LEAD TO 12 WITH 4:31 LEFT IN THE FIRST HALF!!!

I guess his histrionics over the truly exciting moments start to carry a little less weight when you hear him doing the exact same act for some of the most mundane games. It becomes annoying. Basically you come to realize that the guy is going to get excited regardless of how the game plays out.

The exact point I was making earlier.

Thanks for the Nazy Mohammed memory too, oh man. What a dark era.

As long as its not Dierdorf, I'm happy. I'll take any of the other CBS duos.

Dan Dierdorf and Dan Fouts are both analysts, not play-by-play guys. They both are paired with a particular play-by-play announcer. Gus Johnson is a lead announcer, aka the play-by-play announcer. Thus, you are comparing apples to oranges there. Dan Dierdorf is always paired with Greg Gumble and Dan Fouts has recently been paired with Ian Eagle. In my opinion, both of those guys are significantly better play-by-play announcers than Gus Johnson.

I think we've only had Eagle once...which is too bad, I like him.

Personally I don't give two shits who's calling the game.

As long as the Jets win I'm happy.

Fuckin A, I'm in Delaware so now I gotta spend money at the bar to watch the game because their beloved Ravens are playing.

Gus Johnson should host The Price is Right.

    That would be awesome.

I personally think Dierdorf and Gumble are the best CBS guys. Gumble i think is outstanding, i like the tone of his voice a lot. Dierdorf is hilarious because he's one chromosome shy of being considered a high-functioning retard, and after many blunts and 40's he's even more entertaining to listen to.

I never understood the Dierdorf hate either, I think he and Gumbel call a great game. I like them as much as Simms/Nantz.
