That's the way it is, one week it's Super Bowl here we come and the next the season is over. Poeple fail to realize that pretty much every big time team has a clunker or two during the regular season.
I haven't seen the game, was at Wembley on Sunday, but it seems to me that Schottenheimer sometimes gets too wrapped up in 'limiting tendancies' and won't just run plays that work, that we're good at and that we've practiced to death. If the run game starts slowly he wants to plan around it; we don't run to the outside enough; slants aren't used effectively on a regular basis; deep balls seem to come at random; play action isn't used properly (i.e. in clear running situations after establishing that we're going to run a lot); and more besides. Can be frustrating when we don't just line up and attack the opponent's weakness.
It's a fair point to question the game strategy. But when I see stuff like "Jerricho Droppery" and "Get Santonio Holmes out of here" and "Pretenders" I get annoyed. I am glad I took a self imposed sabbattical from this site the last two days to get away from the bullshit. This is the NFL, the other teams are pretty good too. The Jets have yet to hit their stride, and here they are 5-2. not too bad. Yet I see people getting ready to dump on players like Cotchery, who is one of the classiest and most reliable Jets on the team. Are you fucking kidding me?
Awesome thread. But seriously, why is it that anyone would be surprised at all the gloom and doom after a shutout loss at home? No, it's obviously not time to throw in the towel and give up on the season, but it sure as hell isn't time to start celebrating either. Of course fans are upset, that was one hell of an ugly way to lose - especially at home. I feel the same way I did after week 1 - like shit. I don't necessarily feel the need to freak out about it on this message board, but I can certainly understand where that stuff is coming from. After all, if you don't get caught up in the game emotionally then where's the fun in it?
Fair enough though - there's definitely no need to be calling for heads - especially a guy like Cotch - that's just silly.
So much for the "new breed" of Jet Fan. We're still the same old manic depressives we've always been. Win 5 in a row and we're talking subway superbowl. Lose one we're supposed to win and we suck donkey dick. Why am I not surprised by any of this? Perhaps because we've seen this movie before.
I move on. I get pissed at dropped balls, poor execution, what I think is mediocre play calling, and strange game planning but I look at where we are and what we're capable of and move on to the next week. During the game I curse and yell and break things but after the game I'm not ready to cut players or fire coaches when we're 5-2... 2-5 with this team maybe but not 5-2.
Some people take it too far but there is nothing wrong with questioning the coaching staff or being pissed off at a player who shit the bed in a game. The Ravens game was supposed to be our clunker but this was a game that we shoudl have won. This was a 2009 Jet game not a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.
I try to avoid the highs and the lows. While I thought the Jets should win against GB last week, I don't think I took the Packers likely, and was certainly not in for talking about a subway Super Bowl and all that crap. And today this team is still 5-2 and has plenty of talent. But... I also certainly did have hopes this would be that great season, that season when the Jets finally won an SB again. SO yeah, the Jets do not suck donkey dick, but you don't have to suck that bad to not make the SB, and right now the SB seems a long way from a likelihood.
I don't agree with that statement, the Jets defense looked Super Bowl elite last week with the offense essentially handing 6 points to the Packers. The issues are correctable and let's be honest there were two huge screw ups by the officaiating crew. The offense looked terrible but they didn't look abysmal like they did in the Ravens game. There were a few mistakes that are all easily corrected. They didn't look clueless, Schotty just got outcoached by Capers and there was poor execution by guys that are normally very reliable.
Also what's odd when our D holds the opponent to 10 points or less we lose. I've been saying it all year, we have yet to play a complete game in all 4 quarters, once our team figures that out I think the sky's the limit.
i agree. But i also do not think that this team has won a solid game since Buffalo. I think the coaching mentality has changed a bit. last year the pass rush was aggressive in more of an all or nthing. This year i dont think anyone is very scared. I didnt get to see the game sunday due to family stuff,so if the pass rush was great, then im wrong. Its just one game, and after the bye so im not going to get bent out of shape. I just think there is a lot of work to do for this team to live up to rexs big mouth. still love the guy as of now though
Jets fans need to realize its not time to panic. As Jets fans, even if we do win the Super Bowl, you know it won't be easy. Fans wanted an easy 15-1 record, get a Bye week and homefield, play a weak team in the divisional round, then play a team who upset the Steelers or Patriots or Ravens in the Championship game, then beat the Buccaneers ,who somehow made it out of the NFC into the Super Bowl, by 35.
I agree with the OP for the most part, and no one on this team deserves to get cut ('cept for Gholston, but there are 1,000,000 threads about that). I do still believe, however, that if the FO can find lets say "more compatible" offensive coordinator for this team then they need to fire Schotty after this. It hasn't just been about the play calling, but also the lack of improvement with the offense--namely the skill positions in general. Our offensive line has done very well and is a top 5 unit in the league. Sanchez has improved greatly since last year, we have one of the best 1,2,3 punches at WR in the league and Dustin Keller (who has seen few balls these past weeks), yet we're ranked #21 in offense. Can this be attributed to coaching? Yes. Where do I think they should be? Around the #16 spot at the very least, this offense should be getting it done this year.
