I fully expect Rex to make this point over the week. We will see more running over the next few weeks.
Since Holmes has come into the lineup, the Jets Rush to Pass selection has gone from 55:45 to 45:55. Just saying.
Or .... could it be that defenses have decided it's time to force Sanchez & Jets passing game to beat them ... just like the Packers stated. Do you know that it means to stack the box?
It seemed to me that yesterday the Jets weren't content with winning a field position game. Look at the Chargers playoff game, our offense didn't do shit until late in the game. We kept running and running with little or no success until they got tired and Shonn broke off the big run. The fact that we threw the ball 16 times more than we ran it is inexcusable. Yeah there were some problems with execution (mainly catching the ball) but even still, throwing that many more times than running doesn't make any sense, esp. with the way our defense was playing.
Yes. And except for the Ravens, and Possibly PITT, no LB Corps is going to stuff the run consistently when you line up Hunter and Turner and Keller, and throw Connor and Greene at them for the first 30 minutes of a game.
It felt like they should have run some more. That said, there were plenty of openings in the passing game. I'm not sure it was the playcalling as much as the execution. The run/throw ratio is probably a bit skewed since we were throwing a lot in the 4th quarter to try to catch up. When teams stack the box, our WR's and QB have to beat them, and I think most of the time they will. There is more than enough talent on this O to pass the ball.
The other team will play a goalline type defense, you'll average about 2 yards a carry, and it'll be three and out every drive. This might work in Madden but it doesn't work in real life champ.
Sure, but the Jets are still averaging over 4 yards per carry on the ground overall. 4.84 against Minnesota, 4.30 against Denver. The fact is that Schotty has gotten pass happy since Santonio came back. Teams stacked the box all year last year too and the Jets still ran it down their throats. Then they used a play action to burn other teams in the air. They tired out their opponents and then made them pay in the 4th quarter. That's what got them to the AFC Championship. The Jets ran the ball on average 38 times per game last season with an average of 4.5 YPC. This year, it's 32 times per game with 4.8 yards per carry. Since week 5, 30 carries per game. Are we really saying that teams are stacking the box less this year than last year? Are we saying that our runningbacks aren't as good? Stop with the bullshit. Yes, Sanchez is better, but let's stop kidding ourselves. This is a run first team and will continue to be unless Sanchez becomes an elite QB
You mean you don't see the genius of taking every WR we have off the field and replacing them with 2 extra lineman who can't catch or run?
I agree that the Jets do have talent to beat any defense in the league through the air, but dont you think that yesterday was a sign that Jets got a bit too full of themselves? The jets offensive line is the most physical unit in the league and they love to run block like any other oline group. Not to mention a tremendous 1-2 punch the jets have in the backfield. Mark is still only year two in the league, and putting the fate of the team in his hands now is not the right move. Dont hide Mark, but put him in better positions to succeed.
Nope, can't say that I do. It wouldn't even generate a lot of yardage; look at fourth and one plays--backs usually only get a yard or two because there's no real running lane and there are too many bodies so the back almost always gets tangled up on someone, often his own blocker, almost as soon as he hits the los.
The only reason putting hunter or turner in the game as an extra TE works is because it isn't used for extended periods of time. Running a goal line formation with only one real receiving threat is an awful idea and it being suggested as useful alternative to the offense from yesterday is pretty ridiculous.
On First down? Yesterday, you left 3 WR's on the field for running plays. That's not what this team is good at with 8 in the box. GB Defense is close to the same type of D Buffalo has, with an extra playmaker at the LB position. We ran quite a bit of large sets against Buffalo, But Hunter was not quite 100%. We also ran it well in the preseason, including sending Hunter out into pass patterns.(where he's usually open) (And BTW Hunter, and Turner both move fairly well in space.) The point being that 300 LBS of Mean > 260 lbs of Mean. You only need a little more than 4 on first down. Something they didn't get yesterday. And I could be wrong...but...almost every offensive lineman I've ever seen quoted states that trying to pound on an opponent is their favored method of getting rhythm. P.S. Geniuses...you can't run goallline defense against a 3 TE set..Goalline is about gapping and guessing. Guess wrong, and it's a score for a guy with Greene's speed. 3TE's means Hawk and Matthews are taking on two much larger men.
The entire point of ground and pound is to not give in to the defense every time they put 8 in the box. Schotty immediately shits his pants every time he see's a stacked defensive front. You've got premier backs and offensive line, use them ya dweeb.
Your changing what you said, or at least suggested. You seemed to be suggesting that the offense should have leaned heavily on some heavy run formation for the duration of the first half. Those formations work when they are used a handful of times per game, just like the wildcat. It isn't something you run the offense around.
No...Don't you see the genius of faking out the defense by trying to run with a three wide set? (especially against an undersized, but quick defensive team...)
Against GB...I would have given them a couple series to slow down the LB's (more if they weren't stopping it.) And the other poster chiming in about 4th down and goal line D completely misses the point The defense cannot commit all 11 to the LOS. all you are doing is generating a mismatch, which is what Schotty thought he had with Cotchery yesterday. I just believe that in a close game where you're bigger than they are and you cannot get a rhythm going you beat on them till you get one.
I find it hilarious we are complaining about the running game (which had 119 yards btw) today. Yes we should have run the damn ball more often, but thats a play calling issue. Also its not like balls didnt hit our receivers in the hands and bounced out. The play calls were working, our guys just flat out didnt execute for shit Sunday. Time to move past it and focus all our energy on beating Detroit. They are no longer a pushover, time to prove we can still win a damn game
