It seems like this game's Defensive scheme completely deviated from the normal scheme. Why wasn't Revis locked on one WR, be it Jennings or Driver? How many times was Drew Coleman assigned to one of GB's top two WRs? Are Revis and Cromartie now assigned to specific sides of the field rather than specific WRs? Look, I'm not blaming the Defense in any way whatsoever; the D played lights out and is the ONLY reason we had any chance to win at the end of the game. But I don't understand what was going on with the CBs' matchups. Last year, it was clear, it was cut and dry: Revis on WR1, and the rest of the CBs guarded the rest of the opponents' WRs accordingly. Today, that wasn't the case (consistently). Is this a result of Revis' hamstring? Of Cromartie's play and comfort with certain WRs/certain side of the field? Of Rex trying to mix things up? What explains the sudden change in the CBs' assignments?
I think they were probably just giving different looks. When they came out of the second half Revis was locked onto Jennings for a while. They have more flexibility with Cromartie playing so well.
Nothing for nothing when the Defense gives up 6 points and really no big plays, they could have had Mike Devito on Jennings and I can't argue with it. I realize you are not bitching and just asking. I suspect you will hear the reason in a Rex presser.
The Secondary did a very good job against a potent passing attack and a QB who's verging elite status. I'm just wondering why it took until the 2nd Half for, among other assignments, Revis to shadow Jennings.
Yeah, I'm just wondering why this was different than the norm. For all of Rex's confusion within the Front 7, we always knew/know what the Secondary would be doing -- man-to-man CB1 vs WR1, CB2 vs WR2 etc. That wasn't the case today.
Like I said it's probably just them showing different looks. Jennings didn't really hurt them in either half.
