I'm a Yankee fan so obviously I wanted them to make the WS anyway but if they had I'd imagine a deal would have been made by tonight's game and we'd have the Jets on Sunday. This is such bullshit.

I just got an e-mail from cablevision. They're saying that MLB.com is offering a 9.95 package to watch the world series. If you get that, they'll credit you $10 on your cable bill. Heh.

yeah, I heard it on the news earlier.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/posttech/2010/10/no_deal_no_world_series_in_cab.html

Cablevision viewers won't be able to watch the first game of the World Series on Wednesday, after Fox rejected the cable service's offer for retransmission fees.

The negotiation breakdown has cut off nearly 3 million viewers from Fox shows for 11 days and has sparked a debate over whether federal regulators should intervene in such disputes.

Fox parent company News Corp. said in a statement that Cablevision's offer was "incomplete" and "not acceptable." The broadcasters said Cablevision sought a discounted "package rate" that didn't include a full bundle of channels from Fox. But Fox was only willing to offer the full bundled package or a deal to take just WNYW FOX5, WTXF FOX29 and WWOR My9.

"Cablevision’s offer – sent to the press just as it was provided to us – is yet another in a long line of publicity stunts," Fox said.

Cablevision said in an earlier press release that it had come back to the negotiating table with a higher offer -- to take Fox shows at around the same rate being paid by Time Warner Cable.

“It is now clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that News Corp. is operating in bad faith," Cablevision said. "We call on the FCC to intervene immediately to restore the Fox signals to Cablevision’s 3 million homes and order News Corp. to agree to binding arbitration to resolve this conflict.”

    also: http://www.jacksonnjonline.com/2010...d-fox-battle-good-news-for-local-restaurants/

The New York Yankees were battling the Texas Rangers in the AL Division Series. The first place New York Jets and Giants both won exciting games over league rivalries. Unfortunately, for many Cablevision subscribers in Jackson, those games were blacked out because of a contract dispute between Newscorp, parent company of Fox and Cablevision.
Not everyone in Jackson was upset about the blackout. For local restaurants, bars and halls with satellite access, it was a better than usual turnout on the weekend. “We did notice a lot more of a crowd for sports this weekend. “ said Rob Courtney of Surf Taco “People were saying they were here because of the blackout.”

At the heart of the dispute is an $80 million request by Fox to Cablevision to continue programming. Currently, Cablevision pays $70 million per year, but Fox is now demanding $150 million for the same programming in their new contract negotiations. With both sides blaming each other, Cablevision subscribers will continue to either find a new provider or visit their local sports pubs to watch their favorite teams.

Stadium Pub & Grill in Jackson also reported larger than normal crowds for the Sunday football matchups for the Jets and Giants. Other fans found other ways to tune in to their favorite games including the radio. The two sides have dug in and like most big battles, the little guys are the ones to suffer, in this case, sports fans across Jackson.

Can someone who is a Cablevision subscriber without Fox for 2 weeks explain to me why you haven't switched to DirecTV or FIOS? You have a choice. I've heard mixed things about FIOS, but DirecTV is fantastic (although many people bitch about the cost). I haven't dealt with cable for 12 years, but as best I can tell Cablevision is not a very good provider. I don't understand why people aren't switching.

Fios is not in my area and DirectTV is too expensive.

Cablevision has the fastest cheapest internet. period.

I could plug in an antenna for FOX, but there isn't a single show on Fox worth watching anymore. Plus I appreciate their sticking it to FOX. Will keep my prices down.

I tried going just antenna and cancelling cable all the way, but the stupid reflections off buildings made a few channels spotty, and helecopters soemtimes caused interference (sounds stupid, but true).

Had Dish at one point, but the DVR sucked balls. And they put a hole in my roof.

Because whats happening to Cablevision now my happen to Verizon, Direct TV, Dish, or any other provider down the road.

It may not be Fox specifically, but other channels and networks will probably follow suit when their contracts expire with other providers.

I have FIOS - 35MB Internet, all the movie channels, phone - $145 a month -- I was paying $117 until this month. Had a $28 credit for HBO/Cinemax just expire.

Cable was running me $220 a month for all the movie channels and slower Internet.

Switching from Cablevision to Fios was one of the best things I've done.. I get more for a little less money, better internet, and I don't have to deal with Cablevision's crap always withholding channels. Remember, this isn't the first time they've pulled this crap..

i'd definitely recommend making the same switch to anyone who is on the fence.. but that's just my 2 cents..

Long Island is mostly cablevision customers and also Jet country. DO you think the Jets not being on this weekend will be piss more people off then the Giants game? In NJ, a lot of people like me have Fios. I would rather use rabbit ears then pay Dolan one penny.

How was the FIOS installation? Last time I looked into it, they came out and told me they had to dig up my yard and take down part of my fence while they do it. I just told the guy to leave.

There are still Upper Level seats available on TicketMaster that will come directly from the Jets. There are also tickets from season ticket holders on TicketMaster and StubHub. This is the one game this year that the Jets will be on FOX so if you're not going to the game scoop up some $95 UL seats and get your ass to the game so you don't miss out.

That or have fun at the loud bar where you can't hear a damn thing.

DO you live in a different area?

FIOS has packages for 25MBPS, and then if you want to pay extra it's 50MBPS, did you get that plan?

Once your original contract ends those prices go way up.
