everyone is missing the OPs point, hes not saying anything about jones in reference to LdT ... many on this board, including myslef, thought TJ was slowing down. hes still not breaking many tackles but he has more shift in his game than he did last year, he looks great

this is one of those situations where everything worked out for everyone, including the chargers

I thought Jones was hurt at the end of last year, but aside from that he showed he can still run. Remember the 4th and 2 in San Diego, Rex gave the ball to Jones to ice the game even as hot as Greene was.

Having said that, we have Tomlinson so that trumps all. Even as much as I loved Leon (as you know), LT is a Hall of Fame back who has regained his form and managed to replace both Jones and Leon in our offense. It doesn't get much better than that, as long as he holds up.

LT might shit on TJ, but I find the lack of respect for TJ quite appalling. So the guy isn't a Jet anymore (which btw, probably wasn't his choice). It doesn't mean he wasn't a classy locker room leader who's hard work left a mark for the younger generation of the team while he was here. But as soon as someone puts on another uniform, the fanbase's respect towards said player goes out the window.

There's some ex-Jets (Sherry, MeShawn, fuck even Hugh Douglas) where it's ok to say fuck them. TJ isn't one of them.

I said at the time I wanted Jones back but that I was fine w/ bringing in LT. I hated losing a LR guy like Jones but I was absolutely fine bringing in LT as in the role I envisioned TJ would be in this year. LT has exceeded expectations and we wouldn't be as good right now if we had Jones but we'd still be really good.

To be fair, many people hated him when he was here which I never got as he was productive and all class for us.

I didn't hate Jones as a person or a LR guy....I hated the fact that he went straight to the turf at first contact.

That's why S.Greene was embraced so quickly...because he ran through people....he wasn't a pussy like TJ.

Good post, and I agree that's why along with the contract situation the Jets made the move they did and it ended up being a good move. Jones can still play. One need not claim otherwise in order to be a Jet fan.

But... it has definitely proven to have been a move that helped the Jets, and the ability of LT to catch the ball was part of why they made that move.

It's fairly obvious that LT > TJ but I'm glad to see TJ doing well.

Who else here would give Thomas Jones a standing "O" if he returned to the Meadowlands playing for another team?

I would. He was a very good player for us while he was here. He was a true professional, worked his ass off, never complained and was very productive.

That he stayed out of minicamp and was threatening to hold out without a new deal.

I don't think people here hated him, it just got a little frustrating for a patch there when he seemed to reel off a bunch of 1-2 yard runs and didn't have the ability to break away. Not the whole season, just part of it. Possibly injury-related. I thought he was a great team player.

I still prefer Tomlinson because he can break away from tacklers, make cuts and is better receiving out of the backfield. He offers better variety. We already have one pounding RB (Greene).

Why have two trucks when you can have a truck and a sportscar?

I think most people liked the idea that TJ was washed up and kinda hoped he failed miserably in KC behind their "shitty" OL. Since TJ is doing better than they expected, they feel the need to bring up LT to TJ comparisons. You'd be out of your mind to think TJ is better LT. Like Ig said, this was a situation that worked out for everybody. Stop bashing TJ and move on.

I'm glad TJ is doing well, but I'm even happier LT is doing better. TJ was a workhorse for us and I respect the productive seasons he had for us when he was here.

I would give TJ a standing O as well, but I would give Bart Scott a bigger one as he stuffed him for two yard losses consistently.

He may not be washed up, but that big run was a direct result of a botched assignment/tackle by Derrick Harvey which got him benched this week. just saying.......
