Yeah I can see it happening, Jets fans seem to be bi polar sometimes. I will say his personality will appear a lot less charming after a few losing seasons. (but that's not gonna happen) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
Thank you Rex Ryan for being part and parcel for the release of Woodhead. Now we have to deal with the shitfest of a thread. Thanks so much..............
Hell yeah! Rex Ryan is the fucking man! The best place to be is when expectations are high! All the rest of the NFL can kiss his ass because they were so wrong about him.
First year Mangini was here we had low expectations and he took us higher than we beleived we could get. So everyone liked him. Second year he showed his level and that he could take us no further. Rex came in and did well, the litmus test will be this season. If you are still loving him in Feb 2011 then i reckon it will be a forever love
I don't think anybody was wrong about him. I think they just hate his bluster much like they hated his father's before him.
Yeah Jets fans as a whole could definitely turn out to hate Rex. I'd imagine it would be the same way people hate Tom Cable right now... too arrogant, too aggressive, no real smarts and no professionalism needed to run a disciplined, professional franchise.
Here's where I'll disagre and why I think (1) fans will always like him, although may call for his firing if he loses alot and (2) he is different from Mangini. I think part of Rex's appeal is that he does love this job and this team. I think even if we go thru a stretch of losing seasons, there will be no cerebral analysis or excuse making from Rex as is typical with coaches. He'll be pissed and hurt like one of us. And I think it's that feeling, like he's truly one of us, that gives him mass appeal among the fans. But only time will tell.
People liked Mangini at first because we thought he could make us a winning team despite the fact that he is boring as shit. Rex is entertaining and has already taken us further then Mangini did not to mention he brought us a great defense which we know will be here as long as he is. Hes also good at teaching players and good players want to play for him. No one wanted to play for Mangini.
Just to further that point, for the most part our defense is made up of players that were here before Rex. Wait a few more seasons once he gets to draft his type of guys and it will only get better.
I was so used to the Jets having such crummy coaches, with one or two exceptions, that I subconsciously was assuming we would never see them have one you could really enjoy. I liked Michaels and Parcells, but I think I will like Ryan even more than those guys. Hell I probably do already.
There are always a few who will gripe about anything, but I can think if a list of players the vast majority were behind and stayed behind, like Martin, Chrebet, Ellis, Mawae, Coles. Of course there wer players who seemed popular but then totally divided the fan base, like you know who. Heh.
I already like Ryan better than Parcells. I loved Parcells when he was here and I appreciate him turning the team around the way he did, but he was always somebeody else's guy, won with teams I hated and you knew he'd be gone soon. Ryan is our guy, loves being here, doesn't look like he's going to jump ship for some "dream" job somewhere else, and on top of that is an awesome football coach. The players don't divide the fan base, they play football. Some fans choose to appreciate guys who give us good years of effort and others turn on them the minute they have a bad game or get injured.
