nobody hates Leon Washington. People here hate the posters whom say "omg we should of Kept Leon Washington. He scored from 11 yards out in preseason, and returned 2 kicks against San Diego" Or people hate Leon Washington, because posters say "OMG Joe McKnight fumbled in preseason, vomited, and didn't look so good running behind our back up line." Or people hate Leon Washington, because Alvin Keels is an asshole, and Leon's Wife is a cunt.
Bolded part is hard for Leon's dick riders to understand. I love the guy and I had hoped to root for him but I find myself hoping that he doesn't do anything so they will shut the fuck up.
This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, unwarrented hate for a guy who was a good Jet and anyone who points that out. You guys go on the attack full tilt for a guy who has done nothing--nothing--yet when people come on here and stick up for players like Leon or Chad Pennington, who contributed a lot to Jet fans for years, we're the "dick-riders".
Chad saved a season for us and brought us to the playoffs and won the first round. Leon hasnt done shit for our franchise. That said I loved Leon and wish him the best but to say that he has contributed a lot is laughable
You need to go back and revisit some games. His rookie year he saved the Miami game Christmas night or we don't make the playoffs, right off the top of my head. In 2007 and 08 he changed a number of games with long KO returns and/or runs from scrimmage. Not to the level of Chad, Chad was the starting QB, was on the field a lot more, hard to compare.
I have still yet to express any type of hate for the guy and I will still root for him knowing full that anything positive he does will result in some type of whiny bullshit on here. I also haven't really defended McKnight as much as I have defended the decision making of Tanny and Rex. I have been on the bandwagon with some of their other decisions while they were unpopular and been proven right before. I happen to think that if they see enough potential in McKnight to let other good football players walk that he is gonna be a big time player for us. I really hate when people write off players early with the disclaimer that they hope to be wrong. We went through this same exact thing with Greene last year until Leon got hurt but everyone wants to call getting rid of Leon a mistake based on two kick return touchdowns and McKnights lack of production so far. I would love to still have Woodhead and Leon on the team but that's not how it works in the NFL. The team has 45 active roster spots and Woodhead and Leon both deserve to be on an active roster they just have no productive spot on the Jets active roster. I understand you would prefer to have them both as depth but I tend to trust the guys who are around the team everyday to decide how to best use their extra roster slots.
I can agree with this. Not writing off McKnight, by the way, I just didn't like the move. My thought was by the latter part of this season Leon would have been on the active roster and contributed some big plays in big games. Maybe McKnight does that if needed, I liked Leon's chances to do it better, that's all.
The writing McKnight off thing wasn't really directed at anyone in particular but I know that some have said he should have been cut or sent through waivers to the practice squad and I think both those notions are dead wrong. As far as your point about having Leon later on in the year, it won't matter if LT stays healthy because nobody besides Greene will be getting any touches if he continues on this pace. Now if LT or Greene get hurt or slow down near the end of the year we will get to see how far McKnight has come. In the end it very well could end up that having Leon would have helped the team but I don't think any of the scenarios in which Leon could have become a big contributor again are likely enough to warrant not getting some type of value for him when they had the opportunity.
