Plus Jorge needs to be OUT as the catcher. It's clear he is due for an injury or two, so he gets shut down, and his hitting suffers. Not to mention the bases are becoming a fucking turn style...sometimes he doesn't even attempt the throw to 2nd because the runners are going on first move. He needs to go straight to DH next year. Anyone but Philly. The fact is...this team slumped at the wrong time. They pulled the complete opposite of Colorado a few years ago. you cannot go into the playoffs cold. But, I cannot take any credit away from Texas because it's not like the Yankees gave the wins away, Texas absolutely out played the Yankees and they deserve to represent the AL in the WS. The funny thing is...just how we blame Girardi for the Yankees losing sometimes...Ron Washington should get NO CREDIT for being a good manager of this Texas team...put me out there and you'd have the same result.
Quick question... not an expert of baseball but I watch the playoffs... is it just me or is A-rod's contract why bigger than his actual performance/impact on the field. It seems to me the yanks have way more pivotal palyers than him... not saying he's bad but isn't he the highest paid guy or something?
Not sure how you figure that, considering he'd been pretty damn good up until that Molina at-bat. If they'd have had a better lead at the time, no way does Murphy get an IBB, and things play out differently. This team has slumped all year. This isn't new, and I talked about it all year. They beat up on the bad teams (as playoff teams should) but they couldn't beat out the good teams, which playoffs teams must also do. Here's the breakdown: Code: Opponent Split W L RS RA WP ARI 2 1 19 18 .667 BAL 13 5 94 55 .722 BOS 9 9 107 97 .500 CHW 4 2 42 33 .667 CLE 6 2 60 30 .750 DET 4 4 39 28 .500 HOU 3 0 22 11 1.000 KCR 5 3 48 29 .625 LAA 4 4 43 43 .500 LAD 2 1 14 16 .667 MIN 4 2 24 21 .667 NYM 3 3 18 19 .500 OAK 9 1 56 23 .900 PHI 1 2 12 16 .333 SEA 6 4 45 35 .600 TBR 8 10 90 97 .444 TEX 4 4 39 33 .500 TOR 8 10 87 89 .444 They beat up on the Diamondbacks, Orioles, White Sox, Indians, Astros, Royals, Dodgers, Twins, As, and Mariners. All of which, apart from arguably LA, Minny, and Chicago being bad teams. LA and Chicago weren't exactly great, and Minnesota proved they didn't belong once again. They broke even with the Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, Mets, and Rangers. All decent teams, with the exception of Texas who we're seeing are actually very good. They got beat up by the Phillies, Rays, and Jays. While the Jays are clearly the weakest team on that list, they had the lineup to compete with the best teams. The Yankees couldn't beat the good teams during season series. For anyone to think that they'd fare better in the playoffs was ridiculous. I wonder if Joey Looseleafs has those stats in his binder. -------------- BTW: From Buster Olney: "A recurring bit of thought from scouts today: Jeter more vulnerable than ever to outside breaking balls; ARod looks very shaky on defense." I guess the scouts are as clueless as myself. Surely the members of this message board can teach them a thing or two.
Yes, he's the highest paid player. When he's on, he's still one of the best hitters in the game. The problem is, he's been dealing with lingering effects of his groin/hip injuries and it's completely debilitating him. Obviously his contract is way bigger than any performance he's making on the field, but it would be hard to argue that his performance could ever live up to his money. When the deal was made, he was fully healthy, hadn't yet admitted steroid use, and looked like a sure thing to break Bonds' home run record. He was marketable enough to justify paying him his ridiculous money. Unfortunately, time waits for no man. The mid-30s are a bitch when your body suddenly tells you out of nowhere "Hey, you ain't no kid anymore!"
As long as the scouts blame it on actual diminishing skills and not a "lack of heart", there's nothing for them to learn.
Maybe they play out differently, but I can't see how he would've been considered a hero the way he pitched. Especially when you're not taking steroids anymore.
Hardy, har, har. Perhaps you might click back a few pages to comments made about my saying ARod should now be a full-time DH. And as far as heart, yeah, I still maintain that this team has little of it, and that it affects how they play. I don't really give a shit what anyone thinks of that. Amazingly enough, Darling and Smoltz, douchebags that they are, were talking much along the same lines last night. It's funny how whenever former players talk about their old game, they always talk about the human element. Whether that involves nerves, overthinking, being "clutch" etc., and it's effect on the individual performance. Yet the internet full of nerds disputes that it has any effect whatsoever. It's all about their own binders. Just like Joey. When we're watching robots play the game I'll take the "heart" out of the conversation.
LMFBO!!!!!!! The Kicker is the one parent on the left tapping his son to show him how kewl it is to be a douche' Then on the right, Tutrtle Tits Tommy in the blue shirt saying, "Fuk you, Fuk you":rofl:
He'd only given up two runs to that point. Sure, he got into a couple of jams, but he also worked out of them. If the Yankees have a better lead, he pitches to Murphy and the entire situation changes. If he gets the out there, it's hard to argue that 2 runs in 6 innings isn't a heroic effort from AJ Burnett in a game that was pretty close to "must-win" status. Absolutely.
Interestingly, according to Girardi, it's all hands on-deck this afternoon. The only pitcher that is unavailable to come out of the pen today is Pettitte. That includes Hughes. Now, a month and a half too late, is when Girardi starts playing to win.
Ah-ha! I was sure I was missing some infos... Thanks Alio and best of luck to the Yanks fans for this ALCS... it's not over yet.
Thanks, but I'm thinking it's over. They needed to win last night. There's no way they can beat Lee in Texas even if they manage to extend to game 7. It'd be nice to see them try though.
Human element isn't the same as heart. Human element can be making mistakes, going through a slump, regressing as a player, being injured, all legitimate reasons for why they might be losing the series. Saying they have little or no heart is an excuse analysts use because it's more provocative and interesting than the reality. Those same former players will also tell you that after you win a championship, once you get a taste of that, it only makes you want it more.
YES! Someone did post a gif of the Yankee fan? That makes me almost forget that our season could be over in 4 hours.
