That'll show him! Um, dude... Granderson has been the Yankees' second best hitter in the playoffs, behind Cano. (OPS of .932. Cano is at 1.125.) You must just be talking about the past two games in which he didn't get a hit (one of which was against one of the best lefties in the game). Obviously these past two games show that he just sucks. Or isn't trying. Are you even for real? Exactly. Why are we shocked that Cliff Lee was able to do this? I mean, if we're going to throw buckets of money at him come December, isn't this what we want/expect him to do? He's a damn good pitcher. He throws strike after strike after strike (and no meatballs). Tip your hat to him, for Christ's sake.
Sounds like Cervelli will catch Burnett, as usual. Berkman DHing again, I think, so Posada would be on the bench.
Given the way he's been playing, Posada should be on the bench regardless of who is pitching. He's stinky.
"Burnett hasn't pitched in 17 days, hasn't won a game in 49 days and hasn't beaten a winning team in 147 days. New York is 2-10 in games Burnett has pitched since August. Burnett has walked or hit 35 batters in his past 65 1/3 innings. How sharp can he be with this much rest?" http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/tom_verducci/10/19/five.cuts/index.html?eref=sihp This must mean he is going to pitch lights out. There is no other option.
Look at Frankie Cervelli's numbers after June 1. And you want to put him in against Cliff Lee? Really??? And which available shortstops are better than Jeter? You want us to replace the captain with Juan Uribe? Ceasar Izturis? Come on. Grandy's been the best hitter on this team aside from Cano. I dunno what more you want out of him. Oh give me a fucking break. Imagine if Robbie Cano had some heart--maybe he'd be hitting .600! And don't get even get me started on that lazy punk Mariano Rivera--no heart there at all. And nevermind the fact that Brett Gardner is only hitting .222/.286/.222 this postseason--he's been too busy doing his gritty WELKAH impression to get on base, I guess. If you ever come back down to reality, by the way, consider comparing Gardner's gritty triple slash to Granderson's .316/.458/.474 line.
thank God no posada. He can stand in fron tof th erunway into the clubhouse and flap his ears out so no one can get through without the password. Alio, what do mean Arod should be full time DH because he doesnt run out ground balls? Does teh DH not have to run if he hits the ball?
This team has looked flat since day one, I think we can tell there is a huge difference between this years team and last years team. Last years team played with an edge with a confident swagger any WS contender should play with. For argument sake, that was a two run game off of one mistake by Andy. We couldnt get ONE run, thats pathetic I dont care who your facing even Cliff Lee is, our lineup does not suck. Lee pitched a hellova game no doubt, but I didnt see much battle in the lineup opposing Lee. I also would like to see a little more out of our manager who cant motivate this team a damn. These are grown men they should be able to deal with having some criticism thrown their way, if there is merited criticism (ie, everyone not named Cano, Rivera, Gardner, and Granderson)
This seems like a good time to bring up the fact that the Steinbrenners will obviously be looking at the deal Cashman didn't make to get Lee if Texas eliminates us.
Again with this "heart" bullshit. If the Yankees were motivated enough to win 95 games this season, then they are motivated enough to win 3 more. And I'm a little curious where the Yankees 5 run comeback in game 1 fits into your "this lineup has no battle" narrative. Step off the ledge, everyone. The Yankees are down one game in this series, with 2 games left at the Stadium. They aren't out of this, not by a longshot.
The deal "Cashman didn't make"? C'mon. That's backwards. It wasn't Cashman who was stopping that trade from happening. Cashman offered one of the top prospects in baseball. Seattle (stupidly) preferred Smoak. Never mind that this series isn't over yet... but let's say they do get eliminated by Texas. They'll still have Lee next year AND Montero. On another note, it still baffles me that people care about how the team looks. They look flat. They don't look like they have that edge or swagger. Really? Swagger? If Nick Swisher strutted to the plate and back again after K-ing, you'd feel better about the team? Or is it just that the strutting would have led to a hit? Go look at Lee's pitch chart last night. Count the number of pitches over the middle of the plate. Count the number of strikes that were on the corners. Lee threw a fucking gem. The 1927 Yankees on steroids weren't hitting him last night.
But he still could have had him if he included either of those other two guys. It was only when he refused that they went to Texas and made that deal.
As long as Nunez takes Jeter spot next year and Montero replaces Posada and they sign Lee for as little as they could have extended him for back in July, otherwise it was a disaster. The Yankees ONLY care about the post season. I'm sure you realize that,
It doesn't have to be next year. The point is, they're very likely going to have Lee ANYWAY. Only now they'll ALSO have a catcher who is looking very likely to be a solid ML hitter. I'm not sure what other two guys you're talking about. Seattle wanted Smoak, and that was the end of it. It might hurt them this postseason (which isn't over yet, by the way), but it will very likely help them in many postseasons to come.
It is about the postseason. And making the Lee trade would help us this year and hurt us for the next 15. This was like not making the Santana trade when we could sign Sabathia. Except this time, we would be signing Santana, and the prospect we're keeping is better.
:breakdance: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Anyway, Lineups Jeter Granderson Teixeira Rodriguez Cano Swisher Berkman Gardner Cervelli
Sure it has to be next year. They are prospects and the Yankees will eventually always get rid of their prospects and they will become stars for other teams (Austin Jackson). If they aren't playing for the Yankees next year consider them gone.
