OK...not a die-hard college football fan but Oklahoma is #1?? Hardly dominating wins in their record...52-0 over ISU (3-4)...just sayin'. They'll lose at some point
Ouch! Ohio moved down to 10. We play Wisky next week and after the win that should put us at #7...I'm guessing?
Oklahoma was lucky to survive against Utah St and the Air Force Academy had them on the ropes. I like two MWC teams in the top 5 though with those sellouts Utah in the top 10 as well.
BCS standings are actually the "fairest" way of doing things. It eliminates human emotion. That's why Oregon is ranked #1 in the human polls and #2 in the BCS.
Who do you think comes up with these computer formulas to rank the teams? God? It doesn't eliminate the human factor at all. In fact it relies too heavily upon that and this is why the BCS sucks. It needs to be decided on the field with a playoff. Like every other major sport in this country. Period. End of story.
My understanding of the BCS rankings is that it is heavily dependent on computers, so strength of schedule matters quite a bit.
The issue still remains the same as my first response to you. Computers are just as flawed as humans when it comes to deciding the outcome of a sporting event. The only true way to decide the outcome is by playing the games on the field in a playoff format.
I don't recall disagreeing with you on that point. My point was that the standings are not based on human emotion, but computer generated.
Why? Consensus 8 spot. Sure, they beat Wisconsin and Michigan, but they needed OT to beat ND and beat 4 other fluffs.
I don't follow college really but shouldn't Wisconsin beating the #1 team put them atleast in the top 10? WTF
How do you start a thread about the BCS poll, and not include the poll in the thread? Unreal. I'm just gonna post the one Wildthing put up, in the first BCS thread. Since we need two, apparently.
No, because their one loss came to the only other respectable team they've played. Every other opponent is at or below .500. They're positioned just fine.
Sorry, i did not know I was being graded. I thought people started threads on topics they wanted to get some feedback on. I figured anyone who would discuss the topic would have a reasonable knowledge of the current poll or atleast enough common sense to be able to find it in under 10 seconds. There's another BCS thread? In the NCAA forum? I dont see it right now or do you mean the 2010 CFB thread?
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=60380 It's expected when you are makign threads, you either search to gather if there's already a topic on the subject(which you did not), or provide enough information that anyone looking does not need to go searching for the relevant information(which you did not).
OK, I get the ettiquette. I did look, albeit, quickly to see if there was a thread on the BCS poll and did not see one. I see now that there is the thread on why CFB needs a playoff and that is where the BCS topic was first posted. Thanks for the heads up without the sarcasm.
how the hell does it eliminate human emotions when it still factors in polls which are based on human emotion? human emotion is an inherent element to the BCS and college football, the BCS simply redresses it. the fairest way to reduce the human emotion would not have any polls until the very end of the season. nobody should have to leapfrog other teams because they were ranked lower to start with which is based on nothing but ignorance since nobody has played a single game when the polls are first created and thus dictate the rest of the season. that way when you lose becomes irrelevant. the opinions at the end of the year should be based on overall record, not when that loss comes. of course, this creates a log jam at the top when multiple teams all have the same record and opinions have to determine which 1 loss or 2 loss team is better and doesn't have the luxury of dropping a team because their one loss came today rather than 2 months ago, and in turn would only magnify how stupid the concept of polls are to begin with. at least before the BCS college football was unapologetic about the fact that they determine their champion by opinion. now they attempt to trick people into thinking it isn't, when it is no different in reality. still just opinion -- biased and emotional. the BCS doesn't eliminate that, it just apparently fools some people into thinking it does.
Michigan State isn't barely ranked. They aren't an elite team but their poll position is pretty legit.
