I think he means the teardrop vertical bomb....he hasn't been very good at it. On almost every one of those plays the recievers are coming back on balls. (see Favre to Moss over Cro)
I'm talking about the deep ball where a Jets receiver runs right past the defender, clearly has the advantage and then has to slow down or even stop and turn around completely to catch a well-underthrown ball. Seen it too much this year.
He tried one in the pre-season against Carolina that was about 10 yards past Braylon (who was double-covered). I'm sure Mark's gonna do some extra accuracy work over the bye. He's been kind of off the last few weeks (mostly to the high side) and I'm sure he's not happy about it.
Agreed, Sanchez still needs to improve his timing on deep routes and let it fly. Holmes against the Vikings was wide open 3 times and instead it resulted in 2 Pass defended and one overthrow. I'm sure this will be a focus during our BYE week.

I'll give you the first one but the 2nd one you can't tell me that isn't hung up there. Bailey almost was able to make a play on that and Edwards had to slow down and jump to make the catch. Also I don't consider that a deep ball. 50+ is a deep ball IMO
Also not for nothing but I could have made that completion on the first one. It's the teardrop vertical in tighter man coverage that seems to be an issue
OK, so your point is that on a specific pattern he has not been accurate this year. You're not happy with a perfectly placed deep ball on out and up or post pattern. Cool.
Oh man come on, not trying to be over critical here. I'm a huge Sanchez fan and think he's doing great. What else are we gonna talk about if we don't nitpick a little?
I'm plenty happy with those passes you posted. But that has nothing to do with this thread. My thread was started to discuss his inability to lead receivers when they get a step on their man on go routes. It's a problem when we can't take advantage of those 1-on-1 matchups. Especially now that we have Holmes back.
Its not that its just we have receivers that can stretch the field but if Sanchez can't actually stretch it because he can't hit the 50+ go route well defenses will adjust.
The type of pass you're referring to is very low percentage across the league. How many have even been attempted?
And I love how people use a 20 year veteran throwing to a Hall of Fame WR as a an example of the pass they are looking for.
You don't need to throw the 50+ yard go route to stretch the field. The two videos I posted accomplish the same exact thing.
True. The defender obviously has a good chance of breaking up that play, no question. I'm agreeing with the OP in that I think he hasn't optimized those attempts. I don't think it's a question of arm strength as sometimes he overthrows the route by a mile.. More often than not though we see recievers coming back on the ball, making a low percentage play even lower. Just agreeing with the observation that his deep game needs a bit of work. Nothing to fret about.
