The man can play football. He started on a pretty bad offense in Chicago and managed to win games. He had a great season last year (statistically) with Marshall to throw to. This year he is making some great throws to other teams cast-offs (Loyd/Gaffney) and a second year WR (Royal). He shows that he has a good decision making skills and the ability to hit the receiver when covered. The Cutler deal does not look so bad anymore. Granted wins are what counts in this league but I see him sticking around for awhile.
I said all along that I would take Orton over Cutler... I don't, or didn't expect him to be a top QB, but he's got the tools to be successful and get the job done. He's having a very good season so far this year. And that is after losing Marshall... sign of a quality QB there.
I'm not sure if the broncos front office would agree. Why did they draft a QB in round one? BTW, I agree with you. Orton is very under-rated.
Yep. I didn't prefer him, but I sure defended him. It would be fun to look at the Cutler trade thread. An awful lot of people were bashing Orton needlessly.
Orton is pretty good, has showed it in Denver, but I would still take Cutler. He can't help he has 0 weapons and 0 Oline in Chicago.

I was right on that one... for a change. It would be interesting to see if Cutler could have run McDaniels offense the way he wants it run. I think in the offseason McDaniel became convinced that Cutler was a Bledsoe clone. Large talent with mediocre work ethic and a reliance on his arm versus reading the defense.
The man is Jeff George Jr (I've decided to downgrade him from Bledsoe Jr. this year). He had the team to win with in Denver, and choked down the stretch... The idea that he is great, but has nothing around him is silly. A great QB would be able to use the weapons he has. I bet Peyton, Brady, and Brees (or Rivers and Sanchez for that matter) could move the team down the field with Hester, Olsen, Knox, Forte, and Taylor.
No way Sanchez could have, but the rest I agree with. I am not saying Cutler is as good as those QB's though, just better than Orton. Watching Orton this year makes it a tough argument to say the least though.
Thanks for posting that. It's fun to see how many people considered him laughable. The only thing I was wrong about was when I said he'd do well in that system with a good run game. He's done even better without one.
I think that surprises me too about the running game. The running game in recent history in Denver led me to believe that Orton would have some success having a good running game. If you had told me the run game would break down I might have been a little more hesitant to see him do well. I think sometimes just having the right guy working in the right system goes a long way too.
At the time, I wasn't sure how people were blind to the fact that Orton did so well in Chicago before his injury. At this point, I'm starting to think Orton was helping Forte rather than vice versa.
