They were just as bad in the Clev/Pitt game. I was watching RZ earlier, and Harrison got away with not one, but two clear Helmet to Helmet shots. Pittsburgh generally plays hard, but they were looking as dirty as Tenn. yesterday.
That is not true. the SB with Seattle and Pittsburgh was the worst officiated game, and so what? there were a couple of bad calls, they also made the correct calls and we won the game because they called it right against the Broncos, the fact is that good teams overcome adversity as everyone has been saying, the Jets overcame and won.
Officiating Crew: Great job today guys. *Phone Rings* Officiating Crew: Hello? League: Hey there, we have a rating of your performance for week 6 Officiating Crew: Excellent news, how did we do? League: .....You got a G.. I didn't know that was possible, it means you scored lower than a F. Officiating crew: G is for good right? League: No, G means you guys were terrible. You missed several key holding penalties on the Broncos, and we identified no penalties that you called on Cromartie, Coleman, or Leonhard. Officiating Crew: Well that Cromartie feller has like 15 children, we should have pena-- League: You guys are fired.
Lol. The game last night was horribly officiating, and I truly believe the crews will be graded poorly for it. But I also bekieve that, for the most part, NFL officials are very good (the call on Jim Leonard last night was soooo bad though). My problem I have is with the consistency. There are some officals that let a lot go and some that will call every hand check or grab of cloth.
One can perhaps defend the offensive PI calls as merely showing they were calling a tight game on that, but there were two calls that were inexcusable, those being the call on Leonhard and the one on Cro. Those two were just blatantly awful calls. Then there were the non calls, mostly for holding by Denver. I am not sure I would call it the worst officiating I can remember, but it was pretty bad alright.
I think officiating crews have begun to use replay as a crutch. Additionally, when a player is maligned by a stupid, non-existent personal foul call, like Leonhard was, the officials should be hit with some kind of fine. -X-
The problem for me is nothing will ever happen to the refs for being so biased for one team over another. They say they keep it in house and do not discuss the calls. It's all BS the refs will probably get raises for keeping the broncos in the game. Think about it if they do not make the Bad Leonard call, we throw the red flag on the TD and that gets over-turned (well, should be anyway). The ratings were probably higher because it was a close game and the refs made it that way. All I ask is the rules apply the same for both teams. Yesterday, they were not and nothing will come of it.
The officiating was bad there isn't much more to add to this thread but I will say, how the hell is it possible they didn't get called for offensive holding once? Just once???? I'd say Jason Taylor was held 90% of the time, even one play I saw him he actually get pulled from behind and it stood him up and no call......
I hate to fan the conspiracy flames, but I honestly think this might have been the case of a single ref doing something very shady. If someone who has the game DVR'd and has tons of time wants they could go back and see if it was a single ref. There is on guy I would want to look at closely. It was very subtle, but I think PROVES that something fishy was going on. There was a key 3rd down, the ball was spotted, then the other ref held the ball during the measure. I swear it looks like he is SCOOTING THE F-ING BALL FORWARD as they bring the chains out. The Broncos got the first down by what looks like milimeters. someone with a DVR please take a look, but it looked to me like he was pulling it forward.
Yesterday was Tony Corrente's crew, who officiated the AFCC between the Jets and the Colts. For some reason, the grading process for refs doesn't ease my mind that much.
My father yelled that as it happend. Then stormed out cursing.. He thought they were giving Denver undeserved opportunities to win the game..
I've been watching football since the 70s and that was a HORRIFICALLY called game, but the biggest hatchet job in history? NO way. Got to give that one to the Raiders when they got hosed out of the AFC Championship by the Brady fumble that was overturned due to the "tuck" rule.
I have seen very bad calls, even 2 or 3 horrific calls in one game like the one you mention, the Testaverde non TD against Seattle, the Ploamolu INT in the super bowl, infamously bad calls. The difference here is that the entire game was very badly officiated, and completely one sided. That was worst I have ever witnessed before, across the board phantom PI calls, passes ruled completions that were not, defensive holding on perhaps half of the Jets offensive snaps. Non calls on the Denver db's. It just goes on and on. I am going to watch it again and run a tally. I know the refs get graded weekly. What teams can do is put film clips together and ask for an official response on a each specific call. Why bother? So it doesn't happen again. Teams do not see the results of the grading of officials, only the NFL league offices get those. Sending film is a way to call attention to the problem above and beyond what the league does internally. BTW, I don't think the refs were on the take, but it was the first time I ever entertained the idea.
Each year is exclusive to another. So the fact that they were in the AFCCG last year has no bearing on this year. I would bet that this crew will not work a late January playoff game, unless of course the fouls they called were deemed justifiable by the reviewer. Not sure what else you can do with poor officiating except to continuosly try to train them and show their misakes. But I do know it takes years to become an offical, and they have tons of experience at all levels. That's why it baffles me that calls such as the Jim Leonard hit are made.
I don't know why I wasted my time with those stupid yahoo comments. So many trolls that it makes me stupider for having read their comments. One guy said he didn't even watch the game but he bets it was a bad call in favor of the Jets.
That call in the Tuck Game was the single worst game outcome effecting call I can think of, and the NFL made it worse afterwards with its gobbledegook "explanation" that didn't explain anything other than it made clear it was not going to admit the obvious. But I don't recall there being a lot of bad calls in that game. Unlike yesterday.
