Completely agree about Slauson he had to deal with one of the most talented defensive lines in football, and maybe two of the best defensive tackles. Hes made a lot of strides from getting run over by Ngata week one
I didn't think Slauson would be improving this quickly on a week to week basis. He's already surpassing Faneca in terms of production. I never want Callahan to leave this team. I want him to be the Westhoff of the OL and running game.
Callahan is our OC in waiting. Much to my chagrin, the Schotty haters may get what they want and get a new OC even next year. Slauson has become outstanding, not just good at sealing off the edge. He's is regularly pushing tackles away from the edge and completely out of the play on runs to the left side. He does this so well, that the pursuit is getting caught up in the wash he is creating. He's getting better when he pulls, but does miss blocks when he does it at times. He'll go after the wrong defender. He is improving very steadilly. Callahan knew WTF he was doing when he replaced Faneca with this kid. From day one he was better at pass blocking than Faneca, but he was put under a microscope, one with a warped lense. Even the media seemed to want to see him fail so they could critisize the Faneca cut.
Can everybody just STFU now about these guys? We traded Leon, a guy we were going to lose next offseason for a guy who will be a star in NY for a decade in Conner. We cut an aging vet who was still a solid run blocker but a horrendous pass blocker. And let our guy who Callahan hand picked come in and develop into a damn good player. Slauson has a long-term future as a starter on this line. Hopefully Ducasse can develop into something just as good if not better at RT for next year, or worst case the year after.
So, there is a thread about how well some of the young guys are playing and you want people to STFU? :breakdance: Holy shit. Maybe you could be a mod.
This is driving me nuts, it is C-O-N-N-E-R Even when I ordered the jersey it arrived Connor, so I've made it a personal mission. lol
Agree 100%. His interior blocking has been excellent all season, and his pass protection hasn't gotten nearly enough praise. I tried to point this out a couple of weeks ago and half the responses ignored it and simply criticized me for rewatching games. I believe you got the same response to a similar thread. His strength is phenomenal, and the mental aspect is improving. Like you said, his pulls are getting better, but also more infrequent as the calls have better emphasized his current strengths.
I know why. They're taking that E on Conner to misspell Pool as Poole. It's a vicious, vicious circle.
That is the sad part. It's more the people fear the unknown of developing a promising young player at a key position in the Jets' offensive line - the pull blocking guard - and are more in favor of holding onto a stopgap player like Faneca clearly was at the stage in his career he was at when the Jets picked him up. If you're going to use stopgaps until you find a young elite impact player, you'd best upgrade those stopgaps with regularity. That's what the Jets did when they let Jones go and picked up LT. Tomlinson was making something out of nothing on a lot of those shift runs. Keeping stopgaps until they can't walk anymore is something that Bradway and Herm would do.
Slauson has proven he belongs at LG... I didn't think he would develop so quick but hey I'll take it . I myself am a fan of Ducasse at RT but it wouldn't surprise me if next year there's a Hunter-Ducasse duel for RT and Hunter wins it... at least initially. I think he'd be competent and he'd leave his old 6th extra OL spot to Ducasse so he could start adjusting to NFL speed...
Conner is so much fun to watch, I find myself rewinding plays just to see who he obliterated. Slauson has been nothing less than a revelation.
No question there.......so many of the yahoo's on the airwaves continue to give shotty all the credit on on offense, when we know it all starts with our OL and thats all Callahan...btw, Slauson is gettin some love on SNY...nice to hear.
I've said the same thing at one point in time. People don't like change. They want what they know and they're comfortable with it, even if that player is of a lower caliber or the fanbase must wait for this new unknown to develop into a more productive player than his predecessor. The rare fan understands that patience and certainty of this new player is the key to not going apeshit all offseason and not shitting on a 1st year starter every on every minor mistake as if the predecessor never made one.
