Hardly ever do you see coordinators of the super bowl winning teams become HC's. Franchises do not want the instability to go on for so long. Plus most of the time those coordinators are not given the opportunity to interview until they are eliminatated because teams want them focused on winning now, and not worrying about an interview instead of prepping for the most important game of the year. Doesn't mean it wouldnt happen, just means its reasonably unlikely. Also I think Pettine's job is downplayed because Rex is given 98% of the credit for our stellar defense. Which means to me Pettine is at least 2-3 years away from being promoted. Schotty has been a hot HC candidate for 3 years, without any idea why. He is probably going to wait for the right HC job, he knew the bills werent it, and will wait until a halfway decent team is ready to be change HC's. Might be a year or two until that time. Or he might be a very good candidate for the San Fran job should it open up...
you can't honestly think after how well the offense is playing Rex meant anything other than Schotty would be in demand and would leave because he gets a promotion, so there is no way then Schotty would then feel unwanted by a CS that is saying he is good enough and his performance warrants a head coaching position. that's not your ass talking, simply fear. there is no reason to contrive feelings that he is unappreciated by the CS by anything that was said.
I'll bet Pettine gets a job before Schotty. It likely won't be with a team with a 3-4 defense either, it'll be with a team that wants a 3-4 defense and they want the Raven/Jet 3-4 with the blitzing and Pettine is the best guy in the league right now to go get that right away. Pettine's not a young guy like Schotty. He'll be 45 next season and if the Jets win the Super Bowl he'll be the new coach somewhere. Maybe even somewhere good with a 3-4 but a lousy head coach like San Diego, but more likely converting Carolina to a 3-4 if Cowher goes to the Giants or moving Jacksonville to one if Del Rio goes, which is a real possibility. Pettine might even wind up in Tennessee if Jeff Fisher decides he's had enough, 16 years is a long time and the Vince Young paradox has to be frustrating as hell for a head coach. All the talent in the world and can't put it together for more than a few games in a row each year.
Rex Ryan is dropping the puck tomorrow night for the New York Islanders season opener. I find that kind of interesting... Ref: www islanderspointblank com
This Revis injury: Rex- we're not going to put a player out until he says hes 100% ready to go. Revis - I won't play until the doctors and the coaches tell me I'm 100%, and I think I'm 100%. Hmm, sounds like the sharpening of knives getting ready for the blame game. Rex has intimated that Revis will be playing, and if it goes tits-up.....?
Maybe a thread "Jets v Vikings Week Press Conferences"... it wouldn't be 1 per day, but not 1 per year neither...
anybody know shotty and pettines salaries? if i was only making like a 100k as a oc i would coach the shitty ass bills for a couple years before i was fired for a few mil no matter how bad they suck.
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/01/schottenheimer_signs_an_extens.html So he makes almost 2 million this year. Not too shabby. And keep in mind we get Marty as a "consultant" for free.
