Nowhere did Rex say "he wantd Favre bad". What he was saying is, if they didn't have Sanchez, he would have pursued Brett to rejoin the team.
If we got the 2008 Favre we would have missed the playoffs, if we got the 2009 favre we might have won the SB.
We probably would've still made the playoffs and done well with Farve last year, but we'd be up shit's creek this year and might have drafted Clausen. Could you imagine Rex and Farve locker-room speeches? Would've been the funniest thing in New York since Seinfeld.
Hell yea i am going to cheer for him when he comes out ...He got us a New Head Coach and a New QB HAHA...God knows if he never showed up Kellen/Mangini were our future!! I would be Nuts right now.
Unfortunately even the 2009 Favre would not have figured out how to slow down Manning in the playoffs but one could argue he would have gone punch for punch with him. That being said I don't think the timing is odd as sanchez finally looks like the guy that he was brought in here to be, Ryan can say it without creating a controversy or creating doubt with the Sanchez pick.
The D allowed 17 to SF The D won us the Buffalo game The D allowed 13 pts to Seattle The D allowed 17 to Miami Our D was not great but we lost b/c of the QB NOT b/c of the D. The D would have made a slight difference, maybe we win one more game but that wasn't enough to make the playoffs. Manning was great(for a change) but we couldnt' score int he 2nd half when we lost Shonn Greene, it would have been different if we had a dynamic passing game which we would have had w/ Favre from 2009.
If Favre had stayed healthy in 2008, there's no reason why we couldn't have made it to the AFC Championship. We very well could have been a 13 win team in 2009, too.
Rex would be the coach, the running game would have been used in the Seattle snow. The Jets would have gone into the last game of the season and beat Chad and Miami. They would have gotten into the playoffs, and then Favre would have imploded against the Ravens.
It makes sense if you think back to the time between Favre "retiring" when Rex first got here and the Jets drafting Sanchez. The options were Clemens, Ratliff or get somebody and Favre was still technically ours at the time. Obviously by the year he ended up having last season Favre had a little left, I'm sure Rex figured that. I'm glad they managed to get Sanchez though, we didn't need any more of the Brett Favre experience than we got, in my opinion.
The man has made a career on playing through pain, the injury was an excuse. He was supposedly hurt in october so he played his best football while hurt, his arm was fine in december he was just making awful decisions. one game wouldn't have got us in, we would have needed to win two.
Seattle and Miami. I said both would have been won. Rex isn't dumb enough to ride the injured arm of a gunslinger. He would have run the ball and got the wins. An 08 Favre gets into the playoffs, but doesn't go far. I think you can agree with that.
We couldn't beat Miami last year, so why would we have beatena Miami team w/ a much better D and better QB? I'm not sure anything changes, that's how bad Favre was for us. Again, if we saw 2009 favre we could have gone all the way but we got the crappy version.
Because he was hurt. And Rex doesn't play gay Mangini games, and he sticks to the run, which would have made a playoff appearance possible. Notice how I'm not saying they get to the same spot. I'm saying the make the playoffs. An appearance.
He was fine, his arm was fine. He was able to make all the throws. He sucked b/c he made awful decisions. we barely made the playoffs last year w/ another mistake prone QB and a much better D. Favre was goong to be throwing the football no matter who the HC was. We lost b/c of the QB in 2008 not b/c of the coaching.
35 times in the Seattle snow suggests coaching. Rex isn't dumb enough to do those sorts of things, he would get it right. The arm was not fine thats laughable. Playoff appearance.
Brett threw 31 times, Seneca Wallace threw 25 times for Seattle. Seneca threw a TD w/ no INTs, Brett didn't throw a TD and threw 2 INTs. There's the difference in the game, On the fioeld the favre trade was a disaster that cost us a div title BUT unintentionally it led to rex and Sanchez so it was a terrible move that turned out to be a great one in the long run.
