I understand we are defined by our record, and we lost to the Ravens. There is no getting around this fact, no matter how we may rationalize it (handcuffs on Sanchez, poor officiating, etc). But we lost to the Ravens by ONE POINT, and have otherwise DOMINATED every other team we've played (unless my definition of dominated is flawed). So when I see articles like this: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/don_banks/10/03/week4.snaps/index.html And Peter King's also talking about the Ravens being the best team in the AFC, it drives me crazy. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Flacco throw 4 picks and the Ravens lose to a really shitty overhyped Bengals team (that just gave the Browns their first win). Sorry, just a rant. And I could be wrong. We'll have to prove it by beating them, but I just don't get how people who call themselves knowledgeable are crowing the Ravens the best in the AFC.
I honestly don't know who's better when those two teams line up on the field. You can throw everything out the window when they play. The bottom line is that they won head to head. We might be better on paper, but we lost the game.
I am not sure this is relevant anymore. I'd love to face this team in the playoff but even though I think that we are better, I believe that the fact that we play in a similar system makes it harder for us to win. These kind of games are decided on details.
I acknowledge I can't get past that fact, but damn that, 1 point. I hate having to eat that (but I do). I just think for that to be our only loss, compared to the team and manner in which they lost, speaks loudly.
I think Sanchez was handcuffed in our season opener because we didn't know which Sanchez was going to take the field for '10. It's a whole new ballgame now (Zero INT's from him), so let these teams play head-to-head now and it's a whole other game IMO. Sanchez is exhibiting remarkable "ball protection" now over last year. Plus, with Holmes back, I'd love to see a rematch.
It is, but how relevant is that fact I guess is what I'm trying to decide. For example, didn't that shitty 1-15 Dolphins team beat the Patriots the last time they went to the super bowl (my memory is shit and I'm too lazy to look it up). That didn't make the Dolphins a better team, they were just better that 1 game. I don't know. I'm just trying to rationalize this all in my mind.
Who cares it's 1 mans opinion... See here for one that will make you happy. http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/10/05/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-j-e-t-s-jets-jets-jets/ After a season-opening loss to the Ravens, there probably isn't a better team in the NFL than the New York Jets. Rex Ryan's bunch has beaten division rivals New England, Miami, and Buffalo on consecutive Sundays, and they played well in all three games. With no one dominating the league at this point, everyone's sexy Super Bowl pick takes the top spot in our latest NFL Power Rankings, even ahead of the only team to beat them. Don't sleep on Baltimore, though. The Ravens are closer to the top, and their ferocious defense is worth watching closely. 1. Jets (3-1) | Last Week: 7 That loss to the Ravens feels like it was a lot longer than three weeks ago and it is only moving further into the rearview with the return of Santonio Holmes, Calvin Pace and Darrelle Revis this week. Brett Favre didn't have a McNabbian influence on the Jets, but beating him in his return to Jersey would be cathartic all the same. --Josh Alper
Not far fetched, and way ahead of myself, I think the AFC Championship game is going to be a rematch of last year, the only question in my mind is where will it be played.
It's a 'fact' that they're better right now? That's hilarious. I see nothing wrong with the article. Lines like "the Ravens, by an eyelash, might have stamped themselves as the team to beat in the AFC" sure do strike me as hedged and imprecise. The Ravens very well may be the team to beat in the AFC. I think we're better at this point, and continuing to improve, but there's nothing wrong with calling the Ravens, who beat two of those 3-1 teams, the best in the league at this moment. The Jets also get a significant amount of love later.
Exactly, we just beat up on the Bills which isn't a big deal at all we haven't proved anything to anyone yet, we still have a long way to go
That sentence makes no sense, you are what your record says you are means just that. So from the POV we are even, both 3-1. With more PF, and only 6 more PA.
Is that supposed to be English? We lost to the Ravens by a point at home in a game in which we played just about as poorly as we could on offense. Have you ever heard the phrase "on any given Sunday"? All you can say that's FACT is that the Ravens were better on that day. The Jaguars beat the Colts on Sunday. Are they the better team overall, or were they just better that day? It's awfully close between the Jets and Ravens. I think you'll find a lot of people who think the Jets are better in their current state, and with 3 key members of the team returning this week. That's not based on any one game, but on the collective performance. It's anything but 'fact' to say either team is better.
I so disagree with this. Good teams are supposed to whup on shitty teams. We did it. Ravens did NOT (lost to a shitty Bengals team). So I think that does prove something.
I think both the Jets and Steelers are better than the Ravens even though they have wins over both teams.
