Anyone else nervous about LT getting as many touches as he has. He has played amazing and far better then I expected but I cant help but remember seeing LT on the sidelines so often especially during playoff time. Yesterday when Buffalo became a laugher LT kept getting the ball when we obviously didnt need him. Am I thinking too conservatively or does anyone else have these concerns.
LT has 56 carries to Shonn Greene's 52. I think the staff is doing a very good job at being both a power running team and limiting too much work for one guys. The goal is to win football games while trying to keep them both healthy and so far so good. Your a little over reacting here.
LT had 19 carries for 133 yards. Shonn Greene had 22 carries for 117 yards. It's hard to make the argument that LT is getting too many carries. It was as balanced as could be yesterday. Would you rather overwork Greene in an effort to keep LT "fresh?" They even brought McKnight in late for a few carries.
its not just rushing carries, he also catches passes which Greene does not. Greene is also how many years younger so comparing the 2 is pointless. Im not saying this 1 game is going to burn him out but if hes getting around 25 touches a game I cant see him being healthy in December or January
I'm still wishing Chauncey was on the PS. I know McKnight was in there yesterday but I think they need to bring him in for another game to build up the confidence. Greene stepped in and responded well last year once LW went down. I don't have the same faith in McKnight.
Ok so LT has 68 total touches to Greene's 54. I in no way feel that 17 touches a game is too many. going into the season if you had said LT would handle the ball around 15 times a game I think everyone would have been happy with that number. The Staff is playing the hot hand late in games. Playing to win the game as herm would say. Both are about half the touches top backs in the league are getting. Its a prefect platoon situation and your over reacting about something very minor.
Shonn is 25 with 160 carries on his legs. LT is 31 with 2936 carries on his legs. So I would hope Shonn could carry the majority of load if needed, that was the idea heading into the season.
15-20 touches a game is fine for him, as long as he is healthy I cant see why that would be an issue.. Its when we get to 25 touches a game for a period of time, then it might cause an effect. I expected LT to end up with 220 -240 carries and 40-50 catches coming into the season. I was thinking the carries would be 50-50, with maybe greene having a few weeks of more carries vs teams like Buf, Det, Cleveland etc...Come our home playoff game in January fresh off playing only 1 half against he bills in the season finally and getting a week rest, he will be ready...
....and no one had the same faith in greene last season. Inactive, fumble problems, often injured. If they bring Joe along slowly its fine. The offense is rollign right now averaging just over 32 points a game over the last 3. He can take his time and get very limited touches for now. Its a big step up from being a starter at USC to a back on a team with superbowl aspirations.
Yeah agree with that, but I think the OP was making the point of what I was thinking too, that the game was in the bag so there was no need to risk injury with LT, or even with Sanchez for that matter. But LT & Greene were managed pretty well. The Bills defensive line was just pathetic
exactly. Thats why I want to see Shonn carry the ball far more then LT and then when the playoffs come around we have a fresh LT instead of a tired and hurting LT. Im not saying hes going to get hurt next week if he touches the ball 20 times I just think he shouldnt be to be safe. I suppose its early enough in the season that it doesnt matter and if we are playoff bound we can rest him late.
...and thus far LT has been the superior back. He's averageing almost 2 yards per carry more than Shonn with 0 fumbles to shonn's 2. Would you rather the less effective back get more work?
LT's always run smart. If you look at his three biggest plays yesterday he barely took a shot on any of them. As the season goes on it will shift more to Greene. Let LT gas the D early and then Shonn can punish them when they have nothing left and it matters the most.
I get where your coming from but if we want to see this team in the playoffs LT is gonna end up being an important part in making it there. Worry about getting a playoff spot and homefield advantage then worry about injuries.
Here's a question then. Would you rather Greene, a guy with an injury history, run the ball 30 times a game so LT only runs 10? That's a good formula for having only LT available in December.
When we're rolling along yeah. I know many think we are still ground and pound which we are basically. As the season progresses I think we'll see a lot more of the pass setting up the run because Sanchez is deserving of that and we have too many weapons not to. Buffalo has the worst rush D, so yesterday we all knew what we were going to do even the Bills knew.
You play to win the game! You don't just play to play it. Can't complain about LT getting 19 carries. That seems perfect. Maybe you can worry that he will wear down as the season progresses, but you can't hold him back right now. Not like he is getting 40 carries a game or something.
^^^ I'm not worried, don't know if you directed that at me. My point was, we should give him rest when we can. It was clear after the 17-0 lead we had that this was going to be a fun game. I'm not suggesting take him out then, just lessen the carries. Which they did, so we're all good. I was responding to a post where it seemed like the poster meant keep him in until he's not effective approach.
You go with the hot hand... and if history has taught us anything, its that if Greene did actually get less work up front, he'll be fresher on the back end of the season. It's a win-win for the Jets. No reason to be bitching about our running game. It's as good, if not better than its been since Curtis Martin was chuggin the chains.
