But...not by sending it back to Sony. I'm thinking about fixing it myself and watching the video on YouTube that all the PS3 YLoD victims are raving about. I keep reading about how simple the whole process is and how people who have no clue about electronics were able to fix it themselves. Anybody here tried it?
Almost got it done last night if it wasn't for the stripped screw holding the HD in. Now I have to get a screw extractor and hope this does the job. Once I get that screw out, it's time to clean the fan, CPU & GPU, heat it the fuck up, and apply thermal compound to it. Then, put it all back together, keep my fingers crossed and voila...I should have a fully functional PS3 by tonight.
Just got it up and running tonight. It wasn't pretty, bit I got it done. My PS3 is as silent as a mouse now. I can't tell ya how great it feels to have saved myself $200.
which ps3 model do you have? i had one of the launch 60 gigs with ps2 backwards compatability. ive had to reflow the motherboard on mine a few times. then my other friend had same problem and he fixed his. one time mine took a crap again I asked him to fix it for me while i was at work and he tore the ribbon that goes from motherboard to Blu Ray drive. lol after that I caved in and got the PS3 Slim. keep me updated
